My tractor came with 2 snowblowers: a 3ph B2789 and a front mount B2550. The first was in great shape, only 2 years old. The latter, well, let's be kind and say it was a bit rough around the edges:

But geez, it's a front mount -- the Holy Grail of snowblowers. And it's not like you can run down to the Kubota dealer and pick up another one for a 22 year old tractor.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster.

Oh, wait, that was a 70's TV show. Oh well, let's take it apart anyway...

Well, that was pretty easy. But wait, look at this, someone has been here before us! too bad they didn't finish the job:

Time to get rid of the lace, this calls for radical rustectomy:

I'm limited to 10 images per post, so, To Be Continued...

Part 2:

Oh, and let's not forget to reinforce that fatigue crack around the bearing:

And there's that picture limit again, so stand by for part 3...

Looking good!
Looks like that thing was shooting out salt or sand as eaten away as it is.

Looks like you are MIG 'ing it ? yes?

Cannot wait to see it all back and painted!

Part 3:

Ok, time to start reassembling this thing.

Ok, now here's the thing: I built this lovely FEL in another thread and the front mount blower is incompatible with the FEL.

Or is it? Hmmm....

Stay tuned for our exciting conclusion, next in Part 4!

Well, I guess this dragged on so long the snow is gone. So comparison testing will have to wait until next season. You (and I) will just have to settle for this teaser:

The PO lived in a municipality that used salt/sand mix on the roads. I think the sand removed the paint and the salt left a coating. It was left sitting on the ground in a field during the warmer months. Repeat annually for almost 20 years, and this is what you get. A rinse and some paint every spring would have gone a long way to preserving it, IMHO.

And yes, it's all MIG welded. I don't have the steadiest hands anymore, so the welds are not as pretty as I would like, but they should hold...

Torch, nice work. Did you put some rust converter on it before painting?
Rust Check converter/primer.

You mention your upload limit is 10 pictures. When I upload the limit is 5.
Clearly each individuals picture limit is a measure of the esteem the moderators have for that person due to the overall quality of their posts.

Either that or there are two different limits for uploading pictures vs linking to pictures that are hosted elsewhere. But I'm sure it's the first one. :p

It would be a COLD DAY IN HELL before I would live any place where I would need a FRONT and REAR mounted snowblower at the same time. JEEZ!

The Mods have no control over your picture limits. ;)
Yes there is a different limit to hosted versus uploaded pictures.

What happens when you host your pictures on other hosting sites is you create a lack of follow through for future readers after you move the pictures from whatever site you pick.
It just creates a hole in the information loop.
Yes they are your pictures, but if your that worried about keeping them all yours, maybe you shouldn't post them at all. ;)
What happens when veyhey.org gets put on a spam list, or gets taken down for any other reason? all of the sudden, and all of us are lost in what you were trying to convey?

NIW speaks the truth... a strong archive (library you could say) is the foundation of a bulletin board...... sweet thread full of great information for future Kubota owners becomes worthless library book with blank pages when the host site a person used changes, pics moved etc etc. It's nothing about "ownership" it's just about keeping the library of good books intact for others to read and learn from. Just a .02 for all folk in here to consider and mull over.

Sorry for hijacking your thread. Just stealing the moment to educate when opportune arose. Back to snow blowers
