Came across this today. Price was right :) actually was a great price :D Haven't the foggiest what I'm gonna do with it yet. Model of the engine is l48v6, found in pumps, gen sets, and plate compactors. Thinking about switching my small gen set to a diesel

4.5 hp Yanmar diesel. Electric or pull start. Around 200 hours on the motor. Just needs a new key switch and battery.

It's only 4.5 horse power, how many ton of force do you think it would generate?

Ariens makes a 22 ton with a 4.5HP gas engine. It all depends on cylinder diameter and pump. You sure wouldn't run out of torque.

Don't know what brand of gen set you have but most all direct drive generators requires a tapered shaft on the engine.

You sure is only 4.5 hp? Who puts a starter on something that small?
I have seen the china diesel 6 hp with electric start. Just one for sale-600 dollars.

So you scored big time.

Here's the serial tag. It puts out 3.3 kW, which equals 4.48 hp

Tj, managed to get it for under $20, and I know the history of it. I've maintained it since it was new :D

D2cat, just quick calculations, I could probably get close to 25 ton being a diesel :D

NO, NO, NO, you don't want it, it will never work for what you need it for! ;)

I'll save you from yourself, I'll forward you the shipping label!:p :D

Nice find! They run a pretty penny normally!

Second the log splitter hookup idea!

They sure don't give them away :) I happened to fall into this one. So..... Wood splitter it is :D I'll be picking your brain on the hydraulic control, pump and cylinder ;) the rest I can scavenge up or build. Just gotta get my sub panel straightened out so I can use my welder before I can do the build

Daren, do you need 30 tons to split Ark. wood?

I have an older model, factory built, 22 ton, 8 HP (Chief brand, I think)----it splits any thing I put in it. Rotates to vertical or horizontal, so you don't have to pick up the BIG ones. Oak, sycamore, pine, knotted osage orange, you name it- it comes out in pieces.

Go smaller cyl. for more speed, but still have splitting pressure.

First couple times, I rented a 20 ton. And it was actually a little weak for some of the stuff I split. Seemed like every other chunk on the big stuff was having to get beat back off the wedge with a sledge hammer. Rented a 22 ton last year and it seemed to do better. But still had to go after quite a few chunks with the sledge to get them unstuck. Ideally I would like to get around 25 ton with a decent cycle time. Since it's a home built. I would like to build it once and be done with it :D And also have it eat through just about anything at a good speed :D

Buddy built one,hyd cylinder below wedge track. Wedge forward and back. So it splits both directions. Zero return time. Said it was slow, but due to no return cycle it was very time efficient. Blocks stuck on wedge-no problem.

No picturess. Imagine two 4x6" rectangle tubes on edge with a 1" or so gap between them. 1" flat carries the splitting wedge on top,and hyd cylinder is below. I dont recall what he used for slides,
the tubes also served as oil reservoirs.
