I finally got to test my semi-homemade snowplow today.
13” of VERY WET heavy snow so far and still coming down.
I had a 48” plow blade from a Craftsman 26 hp RLM I got 15 years ago, been sitting around just waiting for a project. I bought a receiver tube and welded it into the cannel on the plow mount, bolted a step bumper receiver to the bucket. Also cut a 48” length of tubing as a skid for the gravel driveway.
I was worried that the weight of the plow and force of pushing snow might bend the bucket, but after using twice now I see no deviation…yet. Something I’ll keep an eye on.
Not sure what kind of plastic the skid pipe it is but it’s works great. If it breaks, I have an old pile of them out back. Bolting a receiver to the bucket allows me to just pull the pin, take off the plow and use the bucket when the snow piles need to be moved around.
Haven’t put my tire chains on yet but the turf tires did really well without them, spun a bit when the snow got really piled up on the bucket, but I just took smaller bites for now.
