Whooo I bet you've got some hours in that air box! Lot's of measure thrice cut and weld once. Excellent looking work John.

Is all the corrosion just from a damp environment and age, or was it near saltwater?

I know that. I am just curious if saltwater added to the decay.

I know for sure it adds to decay on cars on Hawaii and in some of the eastern seaboard states. We took a helicopter tour when we were in Hawaii and they have to hose off the rotor blades after every flight or they corrode just from running in the salty air. I live 10 miles from a very large salt mine and they use it liberally on the roads up here in the winter. Cars with just two or three winters on them show heavy corrosion especially on the suspension and brake component.

Yeah,it was practically in the salt water. It lived about 100 metres from the shore and for the last 8 yrs it was parked in 3ft grass. The fact that it was never garaged didn't help either.TLC was not something this little tractor ever saw.just spotted today that the sump pan is completely rotten not sure about making this one in stainless, how hot will it get with the engine running for a while? don't want it warping ....that's if I ever get it running.Matt ill be pestering you for assistance when I get to engine running stage, read your rebuild article on the L175 nice work and great post.

Started on the bonnet today. Not quite sure how its going to turn out.I know I'll get it to fit and function but its whether it just looks ridiculous is my concern .With each man hour that goes into this thing the more I think I must have a screw loose. My wife see's me on the computer every night looking for parts or at pictures of kubotas, which she refers to as "surfing tractor porn",and wonders will I ever rejoin society again.:D
I hope I dont this is too much fun.

The whole reason the internet was invented was so half crazed people would have a place to meet more of their kind :)

I hear you though. A few of my friends do the custom car thing and look at me a little strange when I start talking about the tractor. Their loss, this is fun!

Wish I had the rain!! All the grass and trees are brown from heat and no rain. Forecast is 102* here in next 3 days. About 10* above normal and I cant even remember when it rained last.

Hello John. I've just come back to the forum after an absence of many months and by lucky chance I came by your thread. I have a B5100 myself and would never part with it. I had a few issues about possible lack of power at first but the brothers on here gave encouragement and I'm finding it perfect for my tasks. Your project is an inspiration. After all your hard work your little "B" will get plenty of proper care and maintenance. I hope you don't find too much wrong internally. The parts (as you know) cost an arm and a leg and the eBay breakers all know it and charge accordingly. It might be advisable to get the time travel gadget working first so you can take it back to a time when parts were cheaper! Sorry I didn't see your thread a few months ago. I could have maybe taken a few pix of the parts you are missing and given you measurements etc. Mine's in good shape apart from an unpleasant noise coming from the clutch end of the engine that sounds like a dry bearing. Good luck.

I just had a thought. If it is not too late, while you are doing the bonnet (hood) take into account which headlamps you will be using. The Kubota ones are a weird size and are mega expensive. You might end up using something slightly different in size from a car, etc. to save money.
