Im not exactly sure of the best answer but I do hope that you are considering a filter replacement as well.

This might help...http://www.kubotabooks.com/AutoIndex/

Just clicked on the link I provided and it says that either one you mentioned (UDT or S-UDT) will work just fine.

No smarta** comment taken
So is S-UDT recommended or will UDT be fine?
Cold winters and hot summers here lately.
Well.....
I would get the GOOD STUFF...
S UDT 2. The TWO at the end....adds a few bucks....BUT NOTHING BETTER in the cold...AMSOIL WILL also work well. It to is costly...but it is excellent if not the best

full synthetic

The M6040 is not listed
My mistake. I apologize.
I cant answer your question any better than thinking that most of the M-series would be the same but Im sure that you would want to be positive first.
Maybe a different search or a phone call to your dealer might be able to better assist with your question if nobody confirms on here.
Good luck

Anybody ever heard or used any of these:
Duragard Synthetic Blend Universal Hydraulic Tractor Fluid $76/5gal
Amalie Ultra All-Trac 245 Hydraulic Fluid $85/5gal
Both have specs for Kubota UDT and SUDT

AGREE w/ NIW.. You only need a transmission fluid change every 400 hours or so, the question is why skimp on fluid quality. The HST would definitely require, SDT2,

IT is practical for your drivetrain as well. How long does it take you to accumulate 400 hours on the clock? Divide cost by time.

I have decided to go with consensus and get the SUDT2.
My local K dealer only stocks it. No more UDT or SUDT so I am going for it
$110 /5 gals
Do I use the same fluid in the front axle?

Good choice and yes SUDT2 for the front end as well.

Mine will be at 350 to 375 next summer and SUDT2 will be put in it at that time with Kubota filters.

Just don't change it enough to bother saving a few dollars, at 50 hrs a year that is once every 7 to 8 years.
