I woke up to 3" of snow on the ground this morning with more falling. The day started out as usual heading down the asphalt driveway and blowing snow, but it soon got interesting. On my final pass down the steep gravel driveway where I use the snow blade, I got close to the edge and didn't realize that it was a sheet of ice under the snow. Every attempt to back up or move forward got me closer to going over. I dropped the blade hard into the snow bank, lowered the blower and applied the parking brake. I knew I was in trouble when I decided to unlatch the right side door in case I had to make a hasty exit. The arrow in the photo below (taken last year) shows the approximate location of where I was this morning when it all went south.

I had just seen my neighbor plowing and sanding/salting his driveway so I called him and asked him to help me out. I have a bunch of equipment to pull the MX out but I needed another person. I went back to the house/garage and grabbed two long tow straps and two shackles, slipped over twice on the ice, and headed back down to the MX. It only took a couple of minutes for my neighbor to pull me away from the edge of certain doom but I wasn't done slipping on the ice yet. Another hard fall was in store for me.

Fortunately I was so close to the edge that my neighbor was able to come up the drive and get past the tractor, over the crest at the top, and head up my other neighbor's driveway. His truck was heading downhill when he started to pull which is why I got two straps, so that he'd be past the crest of the driveway.

Thanks. It wasn't much fun as the tractor slid precariously close to the edge. This is the first time I've ever had an issue when removing snow and this is my 9th winter at this house. Complacency or over confidence can kill you!

Thanks. I was surprised that I didn't hurt myself at all. I go to a chiropractor twice a week for preventative maintenance so I guess it's working! I did make the mistake of "posting" which is hard wired into most of us. It's natural to throw one's arm out when we fall but that's a good way to break a wrist, arm or shoulder ... supposedly.

Glad you weren’t hurt and didn’t lose your tractor over the embankment.

Our winters aren’t bad but we get more ice than snow here. Can’t drive on it. Can’t walk on it safely. Sometimes can’t see it if there’s a little snow on top so you’re first notice is when you or your vehicle start sliding. Only good thing is it doesn’t usually last long. Seen a bunch of people break a wrist and occasionally tear up a shoulder throwing out an arm. Better to ball up and roll but hard to do sometimes if your legs are higher than your head 0.1 seconds into it. Ice sucks. Particularly the refreeze stuff with a little water on top that has a coefficient of friction similar to greased Teflon.

I really like the "Wickeder" lid with the 450 Hardox c-channel. I have the older style with DOM tubing only in the lid.

Put in some structure for fish today. They are leftover concrete & rock corner posts (without the posts).
Got the dam seeded when the wind went down right at dark. It was a beautiful day.

You got quite a bit of water from that rain. What did you measure? Looked like south of you they had a hand full of twisters.

.60 that came really quick, by the look of things. The wind blew pretty hard as well. Put about 3’ in the pond.
I didn’t hear about the twisters. 🫣

I don't want to bore you guys with what look like the same pics of me clearing snow from the driveway..... over the weekend I had to clear the driveway each morning as it just kept snowing, not a lot but seems like we got 2-3" each night that would turn to ice....

And of course we had a slow snow storm yesterday where it snowed all day but only amounted to about 3-4". Heading back out in a little bit.

The back blade has been getting the most work with the low depth. Today will be blower and blade per usual.....

Thanks! There's a certain someone on here who strongly advised I upgrade to a rake with gauge wheels. Sure am glad I heeded to his advice!

Cool. The Wicked 60 that I purchased has the center hinge which was a big selling point for me.

Yeah, I won't tell you what I was wearing on my feet for the first two flops! In my defense, I was upside down for a third time while wearing Muck Boots with Vibram soles.

Truer words have never been spoken. The closest I ever came to tipping my tractor was doing something I had done dozens of times.

First time using the pallet forks, loaded up some scrap that was laying around the house and then played with the grapple for a bit. Still learning how to use it to pull out bigger trees. This one took some work but it finally came out.

Definitely glad I have both, there is a time and place for each.
