I only have one season on my Pronovost 52" Lynx. Its Canadian, a little crude, seems to do ok. My dad has a front mounted blower, it's more comfortable, and I believe because the mid PTO has a higher speed, he can throw the snow a lot further away than I can with my rear unit. However, keeping the FEL on the machine is huge to me.

So, when a snowblower is rated for a certain horsepower does the rating refer
to the engine HP or the PTO HP ?

I just got a quote this morning for an SB1574 with hydraulic chute and deflector. I about fell over when the price came back at $5,956! o_O A little over $1k of the quoted price are for the hydraulic options. $705 for the chute and $378 for the deflector. Yikes!

A PTO implement is typically rated as PTO HP.

Thanks, I suspected that was the case but wasn't sure . It makes a difference
as my 35 Hp tractor has a PTO rating of 28HP. Wouldn't want to put a 35hp rated snowblower on and 28hp PTO.

it'll work, just not full bites of wet snow......probably fine with 1/2 bites though. I run a 40" blower on a 22HP rider....dry snow is GREAT, that wet city plowed krap is, ugh, horrible though.

You should check these out: Lorenz offers five different ser (lorenzmfg.com)
Made in MN Not sure what the prices are like these days.
Mine is pushing 30 yrs old and have never had an issue with it. Built like a tank and boy do they move snow!
I added a 12vdc motor option for the chute rotation. Much much cheaper than hydraulics and it also has worked great since new.

Thanks, but I ended up buying a very lightly used SB1574 from someone who had it listed on Craigslist. I think I got lucky, really lucky, since he's been out of town a lot and couldn't meet numerous people that had contacted him. He had a bunch of people lined up this weekend to take a look but I beat them to it.

Have also been looking at 3pt Snowblowers...with considerations on Input HP, Width, Weight and $$$ for my L2501 on-order. Also trying to find Fan Diameter and metal thickness specs where available. Tough to find used units our here in the West, so mainly looking at new.
Here is what I have so far...
-Land Pride SB1064, 18-59HP, 64" 501 Lbs MSRP $3,753
-WoodMaxx SB60, 18-30 HP, 59", 695 Lbs, MSRP $2,395
-Woods SB64S, 15-25 HP, 64", 436 Lbs, MSRP $2,733
-Kubota BLMX3164, 64', MSRP $3,154

I like the price and heavy duty construction of the WoodMaxx...but the recommended 3point weight limit from the L2501 Op Manual under SnowBlowers is 550 Lbs vs the 695 Lbs of the SB60, so scratching this model.
Looking to send out a Request for Quotation on the Woods SB64S...

Hope this helps...
I looked up the recommended maximum rear snowblower weight for my L3901 and it is the same as your L2501. I have run a Woodmaxx SB72 many times on this tractor and have permanently paired my L series for winter use with a Woodmaxx SB60 going forward. It performs really well with both of these units. I felt that the Woodmaxx SB60 was a perfect match for my L3200 or L3901. The tractor carries it very well and both have ample PTO HP to run this unit.

I'm not clear on why Kubota has stated a weight limit of 550lbs for a rear mounted snow blower on most of the L series. I normally put rear ballast box of 650lbs when I use the FEL bucket or grapple. I often carry and run (lowered to ground) a 900lbs chipper with my L series. The 550 lb maximum recommendation seems a little light to me.

I have owned a SB72 for about 4 or 5 years and purchased a second rear snowblower from Woodmaxx, a SB60 last year to run at my home in lower Michigan.

Personally I would not worry about using a Woodmaxx SB60 rear snow blower with your L2501, it is a great piece of equipment, very well built, heavy duty and Woodmaxx give great support and service. For me weight is a key indicator of general steel thickness and size of gearbox, drive shafts etc.

Finally found a in my budget 60" 3pt snowblower. Its a Agro Trend model 2060
5 yrs old owner said its been sitting idle in his shed for the last 3 winters so not much sign of wear on it. Fairly heavy duty at 520 lbs.
2K got it in my truck. Everything else out there was closer to 3K.
It does need some skid shoes though. Owner said he bought some cheap aftermarket ones and bent one so there were none on it.
Looking around found these at Home Depot
Can get the 1/2" thick ones for $30 more so being new to this method of snow removers wondering what you seasoned snowblower guys think would be the way to go, 350' crushed gravel driveway was recently redone so its all pretty smooth and hard packed.

. What's 'troubling' is that the OEM shoes didn't last 2 years !
flip of a coin wheher you got 1/4" or 1/2"
Maybe buy the 1/2" ones, then next Spring, look at wear, if excessive, buy/install some UHMW 'runners' on the shoes.

The OEM shoes were an option for xtra $ believe it or not and the blower didn't come with any.
The ones they do sell appear to be short in length and why I'm looking at other brands of shoes.

How much does the 550 lb snowblower weigh when it is lined with wet snow or frozen slush? I know mine can get so heavy the 3ph barely lifts it. Perhaps Kubota was anticipating the potential gross weight.

Good advice. I've used UHMW runners on the steel shoes for several years. Almost no wear. Tough stuff.

Those shoes look like they are made for walk behind or lawn tractor snowblowers. I would bur the OEM version. Won't your road have a hard packed base of snow after the first snowfall?

These front mounted/rear PTO driven blowers have been around for decades. Never used one but they have always piqued my interest. Many people have rolled their own.

For those of you with the manual cable cranked shute on your 3pt snowblower
what is the range or angle of motion on it 90* ? 180* ? more ?
The reason I ask is the one i just picked up had been disconnected
and I re threaded it to where I can turn it a little over 180* which I like
but apparently it was only designed to turn a little more than 90* using
their welded on nuts as cable guides.
I like better my modified version turning 90* either side of the front
for depending on which way the wind is blowing with the open station.
