Can’t eat gold or build anything with it.. I’d rather have copper or steel or aluminum or oil or diesel or gasoline or…….bourbon.

I have been hearing about the end of it all since the Cuban missile crisis. Be it economic, political, nuclear, or biblical, I'd go with just storing up the bourbon.
I try but for some reason I keep getting into the emergency supply.

I know this thread is old, but I just wanted to chime in on the topic of student debt cancellation. It's been a hot topic lately, with some people arguing that it's unfair to those who have already paid off their loans, while others are in favor of it to help alleviate the burden of skyrocketing tuition costs. I'm all for it!
You live in a socialist country where the government pays for a lot of what you have, but you don't mention how much you pay the government for that luxury in the form of income taxes. How large a bite does the UK take from your paycheck?

I wonder how people would feel if that is how it worked when they go to a restaurant to get a meal or car dealer, walk up to the counter to order an oil filter or something and then they tell you you have to pay for the guy in front of you new vehicle (guy behind always pays…put it on ‘their tab’).

An increasing phenomena in the US is folks are BNPL (buy now pay later) for groceries. Yes groceries. That is a good indicator of either lazy, lack of planning, unwilling to get an education (stupid), expecting others to take care of them....

This country is in a world of hurt!

In my state any HS graduate (in state) gets full tuition paid for any state college or university, as long as they maintain a required GPA. Funded by lottery money.

Since I paid off my daughters student loan (law school) of $230K last year…. and if Student-Loan-Debt is forgiven for others…. Can I deduct that on my Income Tax this year…?

Can anyone see how fast this is turning into an unsolvable problem?
I happened to save a couple screenshots and include them here with the date.

From Memory the national debt first hit $1 trillion under Ronald Reagan.
It hit $10 trillion under Bush (just before Obama really added a lot more).
Donald Trump greatly added to the national debt. Biden has made it even worse.

No republican or democrat is willing and able to get the national debt paid down or even kept at the same level.

In the last few months I saw a youtube video of a house rep or a senator on the floor showing posterboards explaining the debt. In 30 years if projections hold 50% of all taxes will go to paying interest on the debt. An alternative version says if interest rates are just 2% higher than expected which is still below the historical average interest rate in 25 to 28 years only the IRS will exist to take money from taxpayers to give to bondholders as there will not be enough money to pay for anything else. Social security, the military, the FBI, the president, legislature, and Courts (along with everything else) will all cease to exist because the funding will not exist to pay for them.

U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time (usdebtclock.org)

Look at the debt per citizen. You have gone $31,561 into additional debt over the past 5 years without buying and having anything of value to show for your own debt.

If you have a wife and kids each one of you owes the same amount of $94,592 (and growing).
A family of 4 owes $378,368 right now. Tomorrow your own debt will be even higher.

Our politicians put you into debt without getting your consent as a co-signer of the loans made.
