Guys, have a chance to buy a 1983 b7100 old type HST. Tractor runs good, but has over 5000 mowing hours. Asking price is $3200. My concern is the hydro unit. Are parts available? Can they be rebuilt? Any symptoms to look for? Just looking for a tractor to play around with this winter. Thanks for any and all advise

That's a lot of hours for a little tractor, but Kubota's can take a lot of use and abuse.

The price is on the high side, but Kubota's hold their value!

Yes You can buy just about anything for those still!

I too agree with Wolfman, tis a bit high......I bought a 92 B7100 - with 60 mower for 3500 and it has a whopping 750 hours on it .....

ask the guy down a bit - not that it cant take more hours....but 5K is a few!!!

send us some pictures if you decide to pull the trigger on it !:D

Thanks guys for the help. My main concerns are parts availability and the reliability of the old style HST. I can repair just about anything. But as you know, if no parts, its a big problem! Last winter project I stuffed a corvette powertrain in my daughters TJ Jeep. Its now quite the ride!!:

Good question, and I have no idea.
I do concure that the price is on the high side. I bought my 90 with 650 hours on it, along with a 59" Woods finish mower in excellent condition, for $3000. The tractor was in like-new condition.
If the price were right, and the tractor was well cared for, I wouldn't be scared of it. Do you have a local Kubota dealership where you can inquire about parts availability, in case you don't get the response you are looking for here?

Not sure if this will be of much advice, but I just did a good bit with my 81 gear B7100. I rarely had a hard time finding any parts and if the original part was no longer available, there was a reference to a new part number.

I would be more concerned with price, in my opinion. I have two B7100's, one gear, one HST. I paid no where near $3,200 and both mine are at 1100 hrs. I think $2000 ballpark is more than fair for the machine, assuming no implements come with it.

Good luck!

The only implements are a 60" kubota belly mower (nice condition) and a 4ft 3pt blade that come with it...

Don't forget that sometimes the key is left in the run position, which runs the meter thus giving inflated hours. I know, I do this quite often by mistake. I fault the shut-down sequence where turning the key to "off" doesn't kill the engine at all, just the lever below.

Great point!! This is actually what the guy selling the tractor said. He claims he left the key on all winter when he stored it away a few years ago. For a 5000 hour tractor it runs great and is in very good shape. Fluids all clean and correct. But I think he needs to lower the price. Thanks
