I have an early 80s model l245dt that I am needing a front loader for. currently it has a front pivoting blade and a trencher on the rear. I am wondering how hard its going to be trying to find a loader that will fit or if I should just trade it in at one of the local tractor dealers for one that already has a loader.

There are some things that do need to be repaired and or replaced
NEEDS:
-Wiring harness front and back
-Key switch
-Plug plugs and or entire glow plug circuit
-Front axle hubs have play and leak gear lube
-Front blade cylinders leak and need rebuild. possibly new control valve as well.
-New exhaust after manifold
-could use 1 new rear rim and both front tires due to dry rot
-trencher could use new sprockets

Most of that stuff I can do myself its just a time issue I run into. I like the tractor but I definitely wouldn't go any smaller and do wish it had a live pto. need the front loader as we are bring the horses we have to the house instead of boarding them.

tractor would be used for the farm work as well as snow removal, running a manure spreader and possibly a plow or tiller. what do you guys think? and how much do you think I could get for the blade and trencher?

I doubt you will be able to find a FEL for that tractor. Could you use a rear mount dirt scoop?

Also try http://wkytpstore.com/ for a used one

Yes finding a loader for it is going to be a task and a half!

The blade and trencher aren't going to get you too much separately, I would just sell that tractor on Craigs list, and go buy one that has a loader already equipped. ;)

NIW been around this much longer than I have so I'll bow to what he says:eek:

Just seems to me a $1,000 to $1,300 aftermarket loader would still save you money by the time you sell and repurchase... ASSUMING the tractor is in very good condition.

Call the places mentioned above in my post for prices and run the numbers. Will be interesting to see what you come up with.

is your front pivoting blade designed like a front 3pt hitch with an additional cylinder for pivot?

This is the front blade set up. Has two pivot cylinders side to side and one lift cylinder that has down press. Plenty to pick the front end off the ground.

If you can manage it, keep this tractor, that front blade setup could come in handy come winter, and get a second one with a loader If you want to run a spreader which you load with a front end loader, a second tractor to pull the spreader would be really nice. Hooking and unhooking the spreader is a pain..

I could always fab up a hydro cylinder on a back blade but yeah you bring up a good point about loading the spreader

You guys think that a 27 horse tractor is big enough to do all I would need or should I be looking for one in the 30 to 40 horse range?

The company "Bush Hog" makes a complete fel for that tractor. Member of my family has one. I bought one for a bx2230 that I had. BUT, it was over $2,000 dollars. Worked really good.

Was that price for a brand new one?

Yes, new. with all necessary pieces except one fitting. I think they are made in Alabama. It was actually stronger than the Kubota made one on my new bx2670, would pick up more weight. You can get them in Kubota orange.

Actually I don't think that's to bad of a price brand new. If I was to go that route I would be in the tractor as it sits with a brand new loader for about $4k, and the tractor has just over 1000 hrs on it I believe.

Not trying to be contrary, but your statement, "BUT, it was over $2,000 dollars..." is a very open ended statement.

How much over $2000. I'll bet it will be a LONG ways over $2000. Probably 2 1/2 times over $2000 for new Bush Hog loader.

Finding a used loader to fit will be a challenge. I know. I fabed the brackets to attach a Massey (built by Woods) used loader for an L305 because it was the closest I could find after months of searching.

You'll have to be real patient and ready to fabricate parts when you find one without spending 5K.

There is a place in Washington state that sells "get by" loaders for just under 3K if you don't pick it up. They fab them there to match your tractor. As anything there are good and and not so good reviews.

Have talked to them. Good folk. From my discussion with them they seem to build quality stuff. They bluntly told me that the confusion on their products strength or lack of is because they use smaller but very thick wall tube instead of thinner wall larger tube. They were rather adamant in saying Larger tube may "look" more beefy ... but that does not mean it is. Told me their design goal is to build them to have better strength as others in a reasonable cost package by using the smaller but thicker wall tube. In the end they really don't care about trying to "look" beefy they just make it beefy.

No website. They shut it down. He told me they are small enough operation that website causes more than they can handle. Call them. Numbers are in ULTIMATE Read Me link

which phone number you asking for? Bush Hog idz mentioned or the one in WA D2Cat mentioned and I followed up about?

Phone numbers for one in WA are in the Ultimate Readme of this forum as stated above. See link to there to Aftermarket FEL. Think their name is Coldwater or something like that.

well if I was reading their compatibility sheet correctly I would appear that bush hog does not have a FEL available for the l245DT but they have one for the l245. DT stands for dual traction(4wd) for anyone that didn't know, the l245 was the 2wd model. I will try the other two places listed in the ultimate read and see what they have to say. Thanks for the info guys!
