Where you welded the two straps on,put another two on underside from cutting edge back. And up around rear corner. They will prevent bottom of bucket from wear.

Re: Need help w cutting edge

some look at a tape measure as if it will speak to them!:p:)
Back in the mid 90s when I was in middle school everybody took a 6 week "Industrial Technology" class where we learned about tools and did some wood working projects. I didn't really learn much there though, I already knew about all of that, but had some fun with the projects, one of which I still have on a shelf.

Anyway, first day of class we were given a test that had a picture of a ruler with various arrows on it, and we were supposed to write down what measurement the arrows pointed to. Only me and one girl passed the test. The next day we went to the library while the teacher taught everyone else how to read a ruler.

Re: Need help w cutting edge

Thanks for the feedback, gents.

Here are some pics of the back side. The top pic is one while it was still in progress and the other is the overall view after I was finished. I'd still like to run one more weld along the back side but I had to wrap things up and move on to the next project. I have big box blade weld job coming up assuming this new cutting edge survives today.

I think I'd maybe make another pass(or two) over the whole length. You've spent a lot of time and effort for it to come loose, or deflect, when you're out on a job counting on it.

Turn the heat up, and burn it in!

I do something very similar each year .....but with freshman in high school, usually it is a eye opening experience........

same with adding fractions, subtraction of fractions and taking half of fractions.

I can teach an idiot in LESS than 5 minutes to take of ANY fraction......and they can do it! But.....cant find 3 7/8 on a ruler!:p

Without being right there looking at it,i would do as MR Cat says. Another hot pass. Make your fillet a little wider.

Not completely disagreeing with you - but anything on the underside will create "ripples" if back dragging, the lip works well when back dragging - creates a very nice finish on dirt or gravel anything in that path would disrupt that. The straps on the side would be something I would do for sure!

I would fix the cutting edges on the tips of the bucket or your going to get big wear right there.
I also have skid plates on the bottom of my buckets, works very well, just tip the bucket a little forward to keep it smooth.

"A" is a weld on the cutting edge. "B" is a weld on the bucket side of the cutting edge. "C" grabs both of them.

So would you suggest something like A and B? A or B? Or just maybe like C?

With all this talk of academics, I went all 'multiple choice' on your guys. :)

Hey Wolfman, I'd like to make that refinement. Is this what you mean or is there another pic online I could use for reference?

Yes that's the exact location.
If you have a piece of the old cutting edge you cab use it.
If not you can actually buy just those edges.
And for the weld, C hot and slow
