Your not going to help it by just putting in heavier oil, you need to get into it and fix the wear points. ;)

It might sit in there cold a little better.......but would it gets a little warmer, it too will slip through the worn parts. It is a bandaid at best. Like Wolfman said, ought to dig in and find the problem if possible.:)

This^^^! Nothing is going to replace maintenance.
Down in Haiti, when a ring and pinion gets really worn, they pull them, pack the axle pumpkin with hard grease, jam the gears back in, and drive it a little longer. Even grease doesn't tighten up a worn out gear set.

Lot of play in my L3010 4X4 front-end too. Mines leaks a lot as well (seals are worn). I just continue to top off with UDT until I have the $$ to replace what's needed.

Let us know what you find when you tear into yours.

Re: wheel bearing replacment

The bearings on Kubota's are not normally pressed in, they are normally held in place with clips.
The front axle on the L3010 is not pressed bearings.
Do yourself a favor and get the WSM P/N 97897-12192 it will walk you through the entire repair procedure.

That seal and two inexpensive bearings could very well save you a small fortune in gears. Bite the bullet and fix it right.

Any oil is better than no oil if it has leaked out!
And if it's like mine it leaks quickly, I'm scared at what I'll find as the last guy didn't do maintenance and it was dry :(

85w140 and 80w90 leaks out a little slower than UDT but it still leaks out. I have an L4330 in the shop now that customer neglected. His front axle repair is about $4000. Set of seals and $250 would have solved it last year but he didn't have time to mess with it. Kept pouring oil into it. Forgot to check it while he was in a big hurry to put out deer food plots. Instead of seals and 2 bearings, it's now differential, it's bearings, hub seals, kingpin seals, caps, axle bearings, kingpin bearings, shims, ring & pinion gear, and lots of labor.

After while pouring oil into it every so often also gets expensive. I understand putting it off because of financial reasons but at some point it's going to have to be done. The more one uses their tractor, the higher the chances that something else will go south. Mine, too, leaks, but I have used it twice this year. It's leaking and I'm not going to mess with it until I fix the leaks.

The service/maintenance section of the operators manual on my L3410 says you can substitute 80-90w gear oil for the factory installed UDT fluid, if needed. IMO, if the seals and bearings are leaking 80-90w, it's (past) time for replacement; seeing as using gear oil is already a patch.
