First Time Kubota Owner, Engine Question

Hey guys, just joined the forum glad to see such a following for these tractors. I just picked up a B8200 with roughly 800 hours for $5k. Everything seems to work just fine including the 4x4 and bucket. Spent a few dollars getting all the fluids changed put a new air filter, fuel filter, exhaust, and changed the oil.

Weird thing happened when I changed the oil, read the manual and anticipated using 4 quarts. It only took 2 to get it full which leads me to believe its not the stock motor that came from the factory. I attached a few pictures, could someone help confirm my suspicions? Don't mind the oil spill on the top, the funnel slipped when i was pouring.

No, it's not the original motor, or at least it's been rebuilt. Color difference between head and intake, oil pan to bellhousing are indicative that it's been pulled and painted the wrong color for the year of the tractor.

Regardless, it's the proper oil pan for the engine. And it looks like the standard 3-4 quart pan the Kubota has used on the D750-D850-D950 engines.

How much oil did you drain out? Did you start it after the change to fill the oil filter and passages? If not, do so, and wait about 5 minutes before checking again.

Yep what he said, not stock or rebuild, but same motor class (Stock would be a D950), you can find out exactly by looking for stamped numbers right front on the deck of the block next to the injection pump.
The size will also be cast into the side of the block on the right rear behind hydraulic pump.

Double check the amount of oil, also check that the rubber stopper did not slip up on the dip stick, as that will give you a false reading.

It drained out 2 qrts and I put 2 back in and it measured good on the dip stick. I did let it run for about 5 min, checked it then took it for a lap around the property. Checked it again and still good on the stick. Thats why I was hoping someone could tell me the motor so I could double check capacities/filter etc.

Ah, never thought of rubber stopper going up. I will check that when I get home. I am not sure what to do first, excited to start working on this thing. i think i might get some LEDS and repaint the steps with rubber bed liner for better grip.

The other possibility is either it has the wrong dip stick, or as I said the rubber stopper has come loose from the metal and it has slid down.
Post a picture of the dip stick and I should be able to tell you if it's right or not.

Good point NIW. I didn't think of that, even though I've seen it multiple times. Pretty common occurrence.

I also have a dipstick to compare yours to when you post a pic.

I think there is a number stamped on the dip stick. It's a part #. If the stopper is still attached securely, measure from the top of the rubber stopper to the bottom of the dip stick and post back. I will measure mine to compare.

Mine has dipstick #15973-36411. From bottom top to the stopper edge is 6 5/8".

The oil level in all Kubotas that I've seen is around the oil pan gasket level. Slightly higher than gasket usually.

If you are reading the numbers left to right it has a hash right after the numbers that is what I fill to. Almost 2 quarts exactly

After looking at all the pictures, here is what I've concluded.

The motor is not stock or even a stock build, thus the pan and dip stick design is not exactly right for that tractor.

It's possible that it's a lower slump designed engine, like a stationary generator engine.

If it where mine, I would drain all fluids, add the 4 quarts and mark the dipstick.
