Hi I would like to add a light or lights so I can see my TPH and work area at night. I have a L3400. Advice on how, where to put them and how to hook up?
Thanks.

I'm looking to install one as well.
Leaning towards a 3 foot piece of 1 inch emt off the fel controls.
Toggle switch for off/on.
A pivoting light would be best.

Hi Meanjean,
sorry but what is 1" emt? And where should I get the power from?

EMT is a metal pipe used for running electrical wires.

Not sure how to run the wires, electrical is not my thing.
Will have a buddy run it for me.

So do I just check this post for an answer? How do I get to the threads that show on the post page?

Just be careful that the total of all the lights does not exceed what your generator will produce, otherwise you have to put the beast on battery charge after each use.

Attached is a 3 pack of pics.

Originally I was going to use 1 inch pvc as a light stand.
Toying around in my garage and I came across an old satellite dish bracket.
Perfect!

All wires are now run.
Battery post to fuse, to toggle switch, to light.

Still need to attach the light so it can swivel 180 degrees.

Cheers,

Mean Jean

Hi Russbuckey

A while back I wanted more light on my little orange beast too, and so I mounted lights to the ROPS. I take them off in the summer so we can go through treed areas, but put them on for winter snow removal.

I have the schematic and some pics of how I did it on another post:
http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=814

Just whatever you do, when you mount them don't say anything about drilling the ROPS (it can spark a debate that is unintended). In retrospect, using high-strength magnets may have been a better idea from a practical standpoint anyway as I would not have needed a 13mm wrench to remove them in the off-season. I would highly recommend making your own sub-harness using spool 16 ga. wire, wiring loom, and weather-pack connectors (you can get these at a pick-and-pull junkyard if you don't work in a repair shop). As well, use a feed and ground straight from the battery to avoid pulling more current from a small-gauge factory circuit wire than it was designed to handle.

Auxiliary lighting is priceless, especially on winter evenings moving snow. I finally got around to clearing my driveway tonight and it was great to see what I was doing.

Post pics of your lighting project as you get it done - we all love pictures!:D

Really helpful the other night.
Most snow Winnipeg has had in November in 12 years.
Moved snow around close to 5 hours.
Hovereing nead -30 with the wind chill
Much of the time was spent learning as it was first crack in a good storm.
The lights didn't help me find the dog fence wire at the driveway. I found it with the bucket.
Bare hand repair at 1am.
Managed to not hit the truck this time.

Dish arm makes a terrific base. Tilt is a nice touch.
I'd like to add 5 feet of wire at the light.
Be able to remove it and reach all corners of the tractor.
Will add two led lights on the rear fenders.
Only thing worse than an untimely break down is lack of light to trouble shoot and fix.

High reverse with the pto in 1st fires snow, especially when the wind is in my favor.
Tried fighting the wind a few times.
Ate so much snow I almost drowned.
Reverse low with the pto in 1st does not generate enough power to the blower.
I use 2nd at the pto and its better.
I've been advised to only use 1st at pto but it its insufficient in low gears.
Am I going to break something?

Very well done! I like it! I still can't justify buying a blower for the rear of my BX yet, but I really like your setup. I hear that the New England area gets a lot of snow, so you're sure to need it. How far does a blower like that throw the snow being moved? The little belt-driven one attached to our JD X300 only goes about 12 ft, and it's useless for traction on anything but a very smooth surface, so what you have looks quite spiffy.

I'm able to toss snow nearly 30 feet.
Much further when the wind is up.
I make a pile with the fel and wait for a day when the wind is rip roaring.
Fire the snow over the train tracks and into the farmers field.
I'll ask the wife to take an action shot next time I'm at it.

I use my blower in 2 on pto. I think it is about 825 rpm. I just make sure that I grease it often and check it often. I have been doing it that way for three years. It works great.:D Dusty

I added 4 sets to my M 9000. I don't use all of them at once though. I was tired of needing like in certain spots depending on the task at hand. It was a pain in the rear to have to adjust the lights for each job so I did away with that problem. The extra front lights are great for night time bush hogging. Fender lights (mainly the right side) helps to watch my disc mower during hay season. I turned my factory flood light down close to the tractor and really lit everything up in close and the HID reach way out in the field. Ended up switching out the amber lights and the front HID. Beam pattern worked out better that way. The amber lights have a wide flat beam so being higher up made them more useful.

Word of warning: Don't waste your money on a Pilot light switch with touch pad. It does make for a very neat installation because all the wiring can be hidden. Even though the switch is rated to have the ability of running 4 sets of 55 watt lights. It's a lie. First one lasted about a month. I thought to myself that anything can be faulty once. Second switch didn't make it through the first night. The contacts inside the switch box just can't stand the work load.
