    L2850 Leaky Front Axle

I've finally ordered the parts and ready to do this job. Question for someone who's done this, will these snap ring pliers do the job? IRWIN VISE-GRIP Convertible Snap Ring Pliers, 6-1/2-Inch (2078900)

    Steering knuckle Seal

Hello, what did you find out? Did you ever end up tearing down the knuckles and replacing the seals and/or bearings? Mine are leaking also. I filled the front axle housing to full on the dipstick last fall and when I checked today it was bone dry again. Looking for any kind of information...

    L2850 Leaky Front Axle

This is new in the past week. I noticed oil on the floor of my shop today, hadn't been there in about a week. It appears to be a leaky seal where the yellow arrows are pointed in the photo. Anyone done this repair and how involved/complex is it? Any input or tips appreciated :)

I'm not sure, I haven't seen it yet but will ask.

Install rear remote vs use hi-lift remote to operate no-till seeder

I'm wanting to plant a small field of sunflowers on our farm and the county extension office of the Soil and Water Conservation district has a no-till seeder I can rent very inexpensively, but it needs a rear remote to raise and lower the seeder. Could I unhook the hi-lift and tap into that...

L2850 - Prepping for Brush Hogging

I have an L2850 and a Woods 5' Dixie Cutter brush hog I've been working on to get ready to start cutting my farm with. The farm is not flat, plenty of hills and banks which I know I need to mow up & down as much as possible vs across. That said, I want to make the tractor as safe and stable as...

    Use or toss?

Love all the stories of 'McGyvering' to get home :) With regard to the boy, I was being gracious when I said he was trying to help. He was actually just being nosy about what was in the envelope not addressed to him. Nonetheless, I was not too hard on him :)

    Use or toss?

After months of stop and go progress getting my Woods Dixie Cutter back together from changing out the lower bearing, I was finally ready to reassemble and realized there was no gasket between the front shaft bolt on plate and the gear box. I ordered one about a week ago and it finally came...

    Best replacement seat for L2850

I have an '88 L2850 and the seat skin is cracked showing the foam in several places and the metal seat bottom/frame is very rusty. If the bottom were in tact I'd have it reupholstered but it's shot. What have some of you done or bought that you like?

Replacing bottom seal and bearings - Woods M5 Dixie Cutter

The bar came off much easier than expected. Any suggestions on techniques or maybe links to tool/puller to get this sleeve (#4) up out of the hole and off of the shaft? I'm thinking it would need a tall, slender puller of some type. There seems to be a groove in the sleeve toward the bottom...

Replacing bottom seal and bearings - Woods M5 Dixie Cutter

Woods replied with the owners manual ... pretty helpful. Since I'm not in a rush, I may tackle the job myself. Worst case, I could always take the gear box / vertical shaft to a shop if I run into bearing installation issue. The shimming step seems pretty straightforward, the part I'm most...

Replacing bottom seal and bearings - Woods M5 Dixie Cutter

I picked up a used M5 Dixie Cutter today for $540. It has a steady drip out the bottom seal as I've seen others describe. It also has some shaft play so I was planning to replace the bearing along with the output seal. From other forum posts and youtube, it seems like the blade bar can be a...

Can't keep my subsoiler at depth

Weights were my first thought, but then none of the videos I watched seemed to have any extra weight addded to the 3pt or implement and they were all going into the soil to full depth and staying there. I think I had my top link tightened most of the way in, but I'll check that and give it a...

Can't keep my subsoiler at depth

I'm trying to use a subsoiler and cannot get it to go down and stay down. I even hand dug a hole, dropped it in there and after about 20', it's come up to the top of the ground. I'm novice tractor owner and like many, was suprised to discover 3 pt hitches only have gravity fall and no...

    Ballast for L2850

I just picked up an '88 L2850 in great condition with < 400 hrs on it. I grew up on a farm (more of a hobby farm than a working farm) and around tractors (dad had an old Ford 8n and later some mid size JD diesels with front end loaders). I remember the ford had wheel weights and fluid in the...
