I wonder what my 2003 2500 duramax diesel is worth? People keep wanting to know if it is for sale. It's not. Insurance guy said I should take comprehensive coverage off it, but about 5 years ago someone at dealership said it was worth 20k, people liked that model. Good shape.

I personally wouldn’t sell/trade it if you were going to replace it with a newer similar truck.

If you didn’t need the truck (but I suspect you do) now would be a great time to sell it outright

Ya, just saw a statistic a couple of days ago. Auto prices up 42% over a year ago (I think was the time frame).

All I had to work with was sticker price, all were "in transit.".

I didn't find one in stock to see a "real" asking price.

Had some fun kickin' tires, even if it was virtual.

Agreed. I thought the same thing when people were selling their houses for the same reasons. Great, you made a bunch of money off of it, now where are you going? The smart ones found places to hunker down until the market settles down, the dull ones up-bought into pricier mortgages.

A guy up the road did the sell old, buy new pickup thing(made money ???),got a nice shiny new F150 , for 2 months....then Mother Nature tossed a whack of hail at it.. $14K in damages(yeah insurance covered it BUT not the 3 months loss of vehicle).

If as your "insurance guy" suggested, you do take comprehensive coverage off, and then have a vehicle fire, your loss amount will be $20,000.
Would you be willing to eat that loss?
Comprehensive coverage is relatively cheap.......keep it!

I have a low mileage, 2014 MB E350, and I keep full coverage comprehensive coverage on it.
Heck....a new side mirror would likely cost $600-$700 to replace.
Chipped windshield just recently cost insurance Co. $2,000.
The car is currently worth $5,000+ MORE than it was when I bought it used two years ago!
Absolutely crazy !!!!

I would like to buy an F250 but the prices are out of control. My current 17 F150 books for more than I bought it for 2.5 years ago. I look occasionally but I don’t see it happening. As others have said, you can get top dollar for your current ride but will pay out the a.. for a new or used one. Most of the car lots in our area are as bare as I’ve ever seen them. I’ll be sticking with the f150 until something changes.

We are renting till the market crashes. Here's how it worked out for us with selling the house.

We got paid $30,000 to live rent free, utility free, and tax free for 11 years.

I bought my truck last February. Got a great deal. Truck increased $8,000 in value in 1 week We happened to buy the week prior to the vehicle prices skyrocketing Dealer offered to buy the truck back from me. I told him nope.

I've owned over ten new pickups(so far) and have never paid with window sticker for any of them.
I bought my current F150 in July of 2020. Didn't pay window sticker then either. Then as the months tick away. Dealers are asking $5000. over sticker. I hope this isn't my last new truck but no way am I gonna pay over the msrp.
Ford now puts a giant 7.3L gasser in some of the super duty's. Pleanty of toqure for towing. Would love to have that in my F150.

Get what you want or need and frankly worry less about resale, unless you plan on dumping it within a couple years and/or less than 30,000 miles' use.

The reason I don't get too hung up on resale is while you might get more resale down the road on an ext cab 4x4, you also pay much more up front. A dealer (salesman...) will always tell you to spend a little more up front, and they all say that resale down the road is going to be much better, but noone can predict the future, for all we know, gas vehicles will be outlawed and/or cost prohibitive to drive in just a few short years anyway and if that happens, the values of gas vehicles could potentially plummet due to "supply and demand". There could be huge supply of them, and nobody can afford to own them, and little demand--basically the exact opposite of what we have now. So, if you pay more up front, do you get 100% of that back in resale value? From what I have seen, no.

No thank you. I buy late model used. Keep the payment low. Pay extra on the note each month so that 5 year term turns into a 3.5 year term.

Think I’m going to order a F250 tremor tomorrow. Built on Ford site is $64,700. Lot of damn money, but everything I’m finding used is almost, if not more, with at least 100k.

My 06 F150, I have had since 09. 130k and starting to have normal 5.4 issues.

I have an '06 F150 with the 4.6 that I bought new, and at 240K no serious problems other than a bad fuel pump module replaced under warranty, a bad radiator (leaking trans fluid into the coolant, mechanic said he sees a lot of them do that) and normal maintenance items. I had it repainted a couple of years ago as it was getting rust over the rear wheels, but even with that I have only put about $13,000 in it over the last 15 years.
I had thought about a new one last year, but at over $42K for a pretty basic V8, 2WD, short cab, long bed, I decided to keep the old '06.
It might even outlive me.

The 3 valve 5.4’s are plagued with valve train issues. I have had absolutely zero problems from this one, then all of a sudden, misfire codes that come and go, crank sensor codes, cam phaser codes. Pretty sure I have a broken timing chain tensioner that is causing the problems.
I like the truck, but think it’s time to send it down the line. I need seats for kiddos and something that will pull the camper better.
