Man, that’s some serious abuse and like others, lack of maintenance and grease! The eyelet on the broken side is seriously oblonged, and on the opening side for the upper claw as compared to the closing side. Wondering if the bent brackets occurred before or after the lack of grease. No doubt the bent bracket contributed to the egg shaped eyelet.

Neil Messick in a video explained how you can dramatically increase the force on a grapple using leverage of your load. I'm thinking an uneven load overloaded/torqued the one side, but as others have said, grease wouldn't hurt.

Definitely looks like a lot of rust and very little grease. My guess as to final task that killed it Maybe stump removal with a grapple gone wrong. Putting entire weight of tractor into it. Hard to tell if it’s manufacturing defects from those pics unless I missed something not so obvious. No mater what caused the damage it definitely sucks.

I don't think the lack of lube did that. Looks like something was in one side of the jaw and they ran into something.

As mentioned, looks like there was a lack of grease and weather of no help either. Left hand side looks like it didn’t get much red and tacky lovin’ either. I’d bet for the breaking blow , operator banged into something backing up and turning with the grapple open or partially open…either banged the side turning or whatever it was trying to hold banged into to something. Then snap crackle and pop. Maybe even spilled a drop or two of beer. Just a guess.

What happened....? Well, obviously he didn't buy an EA grapple! It would have been lubricated properly and never disintegration under any abuse.

EA or otherwise, those pins haven't seen grease in a couple years or more.
Unless it was submerged in a lake or pond.
You get what you get when you don't maintain it.

It'd be nice to know the real story. Guess a $10 tube of grease wasn't included in the purchase ??
Those are some SERIOUS rust CRATERS !!!
Sure proves the hydraulics were good !

For the "rest of the story", I have no idea. This is a KTAC insurance salvage claim that I came across. For some unknown reason, they totaled out the loader. The loader doesn't appear to be damaged in the pictures. As for greasing the grapple, as was pointed out before, LandPride doesn't install grease fittings in this part of the grapple. This is quite short-sighted of the engineering staff that designs and sets the specifications for the LandPride products. Below are some additional pictures of the unit.

Kind of odd how the bucket level indicator rod and tube are bent in several directions. I would guess lack of grease was the primary contributor to the egg shaped pin boss but not likely what caused the breaking and twisting. Doubt that zerk shown in pictures 2 & 3 has ever seen a grease gun. My thought is both of those are indications of lack of maintenance and general pattern of abuse, but not the cause of failure.

I’d guess something such as a log or pole way past the end of the grapple was in the grasp when one of the far ends hit a solid object such as a large tree and put a massive amount of torque on the grapple. 🤷‍♂️

I guess it depends on the price, but mostly, I think it would be relatively easy to fix for someone with metal working tools.

Looks like normal wear and tear in the hands of a first time owner using it for everything but what it is intended for.
