the cannarys have been sinnging to me again. there is no prvisions
that i can see to screw a temp probe for a tem gauge. soooo plan
B. radio shack, bought a package of 2 red 12V indicator lamps,
a piezo buzzer and from my scrap box a snap switch from a electric
hot water tank from the super save. (DUMP). in the pic with the snap
switch on the hot plate i used to calibrate to come on just before boiling.
these water tank switches are calibrated for 110 to 170 deg far. i set it at
170 and pried the stoper pointer of and then reinstalled it at 140 mark . now half way between 140 and 170 is where it comes on just befor boiling. ther is
a nice flat spot on the back left side of the engine block just under the fuel tank for this snap switch.i figure an idiot light is better than nothing. u can
see the water drops on the plate. the drops would sizzle on the outside
edge on the steel plate but not in the middle. perfect. now to find time to
to inject this vaccine
Merry Christmas every one

Looks like a good workable idea with easily available parts. I should have thought though you'll be raising the temp setting some. I would think it runs a lot warmer than that. Post back how you end up setting it.

maybe vic can tell us what the rad cap perssure is. we can then tell what the
boil temp is. i want something to tell me to throttle back. at idle u use little
fuel, not much BTU,s not much heat. it,s when ur working it hard with wide
open throtle, lots of fuel, means lots of BTU,s = lots of heat. like vic says
when u hear the rad overflow wistle blow, its to late.

royboy; thanks, however there is no way to get the cover that has the outlet
spout of without takeing the head of. there are 4 bolts and 2 studs on that cover and one stud is shadowed by the coolind fan tower bracket. soooo'
back to plan B, an ounce of prevention. i have plans for a expantion tank
after i finnish the vaccine.
cheers

At what pet store did you buy those Cannary's at that sing to you all the time with the brilliant ideas? Any time I see some Cannary's I've usually clobbered myself and knocked my head on something. I think I got taken for a ride when I found my Cannary's!

A diploma from the School of Hard Knocks, with a follow on degree from the School of Experience, can give one plenty of canaries -- if not canaries then it is usually plenty of stars spinning around your head.

Oh Eric. Your being to hard on yourself! We're all like that. The only difference is your more honest than most ;) I have the same problem but I only post the things that actually work when I'm done working on them.

well it,s all installed. there are differant tupes of these hot water temp
switches. if it only has 2 terminals that means that they are normaly closed.
(NC). the ones that have 3 or 4 terminalls have the normaly open(NO)
teminals as well. since i increased the deaign parameters on this switch,
it has a funny little quirk. when cold the NO contacts are closed until it
gets to around 100 deg far. then the contacts open and they close when
the reach the set temp. i could order a simple 200 deg NO contact switch
but that would take all the fun out of it. to fix this anoying buzzer when cold
i installet a little toggle switch to shut off the buzzer until the light goes out
and then i will switch the buzzer back on. the switch is held in place by
rare earth magnets. u can see the 1/8 thick x 1/2 dia magnet behind the
switch. these will lift 1000 times it,s weight. the cup redirects the magnetic
lines and increases it,s lifting capacity 4 times. these #,s are not typo,s.
google LEE VALLEY tools and they have all this info on there sight. i used polyeurathane to glue the switch to the bracket. cheers, Louis
