Tooth bar price check

I bought a used BX23 last November. The guy kept the tooth bar because he said he might use it on his next tractor. They went with a John Deere though and apparently have no use for the tooth bar.

He contacted me and said he's selling the tooth bar. And I'd like to have one, but he wants $275. I have a feeling it's a better bar than the BXpanded, but that's substantially more than the BXpanded tooth bar brand new.

I'm thinking $150 tops, but maybe I'm off base on what these things cost. What should I really expect here?

Thanks

I am happy with my BXpanded, but when you add in shipping the cost will be close. My shipping was $40, you are a little closer so it may be less.

I would offer him the $150.00 and see what he says to that. There is not going to be a big market for that thing at the price he is asking for it. You might show him what you can buy the BXpanded one for to support your offer. The other option is that he can wait for the right buyer to pay his price.

I'm tempted to say $100 even. It's been sitting in his garage since November and he hasn't sold it. I told him if I really wanted to I could pick up some spare teeth somewhere and build my own tooth bar.

You have to start negotiations somewhere. $100.00 is a good place to start. You cannot do wrong by asking.

Unless his is gold plated - the 150 would be the absolute highest I would go, and that is starting at $100 - he has two strikes against him in my book, getting rid of the 23 and then moving to the green thingy...... show him the C-note once, and then tell him enjoy the green...........tractor. A nice $100 bill in the hand can often fix a case of greed!;):)

Offer him what you're willing to pay for it. Either yall will make a deal or you won't.

Clay45, you're missing out on something! Don't have to be so gung-ho.

Looking for tractors, implements and such is a lot like looking for a mate, the excitement is in the search. Don't need to get in a big hurry.:D:D

Negotiation is part of the process.

Thanks for the responses guys. ;)
As D2Cat said, negotiation is half of the fun in acquiring new implements. Go have fun. That to me is a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Just don't get as attached to that tooth bar as he may be.

I would recommend the BXPanded Pirahna Tooth Bar, had a bolt on in the past and it was much less useful the BX version.

Interesting.

How do you find it more useful than a more conventional tooth bar?

What about the metal of the BX version, it looks soft? How is it wearing for you?

The PTB works for digging, raking, and can still back drag. I just leave it on, with a traditional bolt on you are taking it on and off all the time and it doesn't rake at all. My experience is all, depending on your needs the tooth bar could be what you need.

The metal is definitely not soft, so far it is wearing very well. I just hit 102 hours since September of 15 so I can't say it is a long term test, but for me very much worth the expense.

Yeah I got a 'traditional' tooth bar 'included' when I got my bx2360. I've used it a couple times, but it definitely has its' limitations. As stated earlier, I feel like I'm taking it off and putting it on more than I should be...not sure I would consider it very useful. The more I look at the bxpanded the more I'm thinking of pulling the trigger...

Here's my existing one:

Why do you have to take it off so often?

I took it off to back drag and put the ratchet rake on, with the PTB I can just leave it on and do what I need to.

Yeah can't back drag, hard to smooth things out without leaving furrows from the teeth. Also the teeth stick out pretty far, have to be incredibly careful when trying to do fine grading work near the house

Of course a tooth bar is an incredibly useful tool for many people every single day. Just for my usage, I'm thinking the PTB may be a better fit...at least at this point.

Ron,

Are you saying you can put the Ratchet Rake on while the Pirhana Toothbar is mounted on your bucket or that with the Pirhana Toothbar you no longer need the Ratchet Rake?

I've been on the fence a long time over these two and hope the later is the case.

Regards,

Clay
