I went out on the deck earlier and built this Snowman !!!

Last week it looked like a christmas tree exploded on the house. this week after the snow the wind was wild lost power again. Many trees down. Not looking forward to another one.

We had similar weather last night. 33° and snowing like the dickens from around 6pm to 10 pm.

It was 34° and rainy when I took the dog out for her final walk before bed at 11:00.

Nice and sunny this morning Roads and sidewalks are wet but not icy. But man that wind has a bite to it. Got the smoker started and warming up. Got some country ribs fixing to go on it in a few

We are getting it heavy and snow is piling up. Then we are supposed to get "heavy freezing rain" at 4 p.m., then back to snow.

What do you all think of this strategy: let it pile up and wait till 5 p.m. to plow?

Hard to see it keep piling up, but if I go out and plow before the ice, I fear it will be harder to get rid of ice than if I can push most of it as snow.

It was 1f this morning with a high of 9f today but this is Canada the Weber will be used this afternoon. Just some local grass fed burgers. Once the driveway is plowed and the snow shovelled and the firewood brought in and the generator checked because it stopped producing power just before the power came back on yesterday. relaxing Sunday.

If there’s snow then rain or freezing rain in the cards, I like to leave the snow for the rain to fall on.

Well cry me a river, you all. Just this morning the Temp. broke 0F. for the first time in 48Hrs. It's now a blazing 13F, time to break out the shorts and sunscreen...LOL
Looking at a foot or better tonight into Mon-Tue time.

Tom - yeah, we’ve been a little brisk too. This was yesterday late-morning.

I did score a gallon of Rotella T6 and fuel filters so all was good.

We’re forecast for 3-6 with some rain/sleet mixing in. Looks like you folks up Route 12 could get a lot.

Cars/truck : full tanks

A HUGE pot of chicken soup is simmering in the kitchen.

Woke up at 5:45 this morning looking at -20F, the furnaces and the propane tank need a break.

Yeah - heard Saranac Lake mentioned on Weather Channel at -29. Coldest I’ve seen is -36F a few times.

Unrelated to this storm, our daughter lives in Santa Cruz, CA.

They had a tsunami yesterday from a volcanic eruption near the Tonga Islands.

Was only a foot or so, but funneled into the harbor where her beau’s boat lives.

She said the walkway is usually steep down to the water, and lowered quickly.

Being her Dad, I really wanted to say GET TO HELL OUT OF THERE!!!

Exactly .. you really never know what Mother Nature is going to throw at us. I think the highest of all was under 3' but even those were pretty destructive.

We were supposed to get 4-6 inches Friday night, ended up with maybe an inch. Ground was to warm, everything melting. Cold told, but it is January. It is the first snow we have gotten which normal we have it sometime in November. Ground isn't even frozen.

Thanks - - - I'm more worried about winds and power failure.

3-6 for us is no issue.

12 for Tughill Tom is "flurries."

Dealing with anything without power when temps are low is a game-changer......

Earlier this evening we had a real hunger for ribs and such, so we headed from Lancaster County to the West side of York PA just after the snow started so we could visit the Smokey Bones there. About 1/2 way there on US Route 30 (4 lane divided highway) we spotted a car some distance ahead with its flashers going. Since we already saw 2 wrecks during the first few miles, figured it was just another mishap.

The car was in the right lane but moving very slowly. It couldn't have been going 5 miles an hour. When we got closer, we saw that the car was "blocking" for some idiot on a motorcycle about 20 feet ahead of it. The rider was going along on the packed snow using both feet to stay upright!

But most importantly, my combo platter and Wifey's salmon were great, and our 2YO thought the cornbread, ribs and pulled pork were spectacular. She didn't care much for the broccoli though

Was as prepped as possible for the destruction and days/weeks of no power due to widespread heavy freezing rain (which was possible). Really didn’t care about snow, rain, or sleet. Got snow and sleet so all is well here. Power is on. Trees still standing. At least having the generator with the house hookup to run with the Kubota if needed greatly shortened the prep work.

What we get here all depends on my prep work; no one else, just me. If I prepare for Icemageddon and a month without power or additional food, nothing happens. If I do nothing to prepare, power is out at least two weeks. Sounds narcissistic, I know, but everyone who knows me well asks me before bad weather how well prepared I am because they know it’s true at least 80% of the time. Very thankful it wasn’t nearly as severe as it could have been. Freezing rain sucks.
