really appreciate this forum and all you folks on it.
I have an MX5800 I purchased new last summer. My previous tractor was a 50+ yr old gas jd. I always throttled that tractor down when shutting it down because it backfired if I didnt.
Should I be throttling down prior to shut down or does it matter? DPF is what makes me wonder.
Thanks

On a non DPF - most cut off after a little slow down, I typically allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds or so - then cut off.

NOW on a dpf, I would imagine the game is a lot different......SheepFarmer, or others who have been in the DPF world will know the scoop on this !

Yes, you should idle it down then shut it down. ;)

With our turbo tractors, we idle down and let the turbo etc. cool down for a couple of minutes if it has been working hard, or do a slow roll to the barn if it is some distance away.

yeah, if it had a turbo, let the turbo spool down and idle for a little bit, just like 30 seconds or so if you were just pushing the tractor. my 4060 I turn down to idle, give it about 5 seconds then kill it, then I release hydraulic pressures.

Each of the new tractors seems to have slightly different starting and shutting down directions, depending on engine design and whether or not tnere is a turbo. Generally shutdown is from idle. Check your owner's manual for how long to idle. The dpf will not be adversely affected at the end of work by a couple minutes of idling, the exhaust is already pretty hot.

Thanks, sheepfarmer.
Thought I had read the manual carefully, but guess I missed that. Gonna reread.
