PTO shuts the engine off

I had problems earlier with the seat safety thing, so I've got everything zip tied off, but today when I went to run my bush hog, the tractor shut off when I engaged the PTO. What else could be the problem?

Did it cough and sputter? OR just die? IF you backed off the PTO - would it still run? Sounds like a switch is still a problem.
Did the hog even spin at all ?

It started to sputter, but when I backed off the PTO it came right back to life. This is on a L3901.

The internal contacts in the seat switch are probably bad. Unplug the seat switch connector and jumper the two wires together. Then retest.

When you defeated the seat switch you went way past the point that it's looking for as engaged so it's possible that you need to replace the switch.

I have a L3901DT and I haven't had any problems with the seat and PTO. You have about 5 seconds to flip the seat up after you get off of it before the engine will be killed. I have used my PTO driven wood chipper a lot and haven't had any problems. Was flipping the seat forward not working for you and is that why you tired the switch down?
