Anybody have any experience with plastic pallets? I am going to need to move some 1 1/2" x 8" x 16" block fence capstones soon & I'm planning on stacking them on a couple pallets & using the forks to move them. I want to keep the load small, (hence two pallets) and I was given a plastic pallet. (like the pic) Seems strong, way lighter than wood, seems like they'd outlast wood, too.

The plastic pallets hold up really well. They seem to take fork abuse and sliding around on the floor with a load better than wood. We use a heavier version than in your picture and I seen (every day) our drivers push six-eight pallets end to end with two 1000 lb. engine blocks on each across the floor. Take care of them and probably last forever. Jeff

As long as they are not cracked or sun rotted (huge issue for me in phoenix) they are great.;)

The one I was given looks like it must have been stored inside, hopefully & can find another equally nice.

The heavy duty ones (what they call "rackable") are really stout and last well if they're not in direct sunlight. The problem is they're hard to find used and expensive to buy new.

Jeff, where do you get yours? They might work better than wood for some things I was thinking to try, I am in the area, so if there is a supplier nearby I could pick a couple up. Or ordering specs, although I suspect people ordinarily buy a lot at once. Thanks!

I got a couple for free. Got them at the salvage yard. Must have been in a wrecked truck or something. It wasn't iron so it wasn't added to my bill!!

The local Wal-Mart uses them for setting potted plants, etc. on. Maybe they trash them at some point.

Put an ad on CL under wanted.

I got a couple of them for free a couple of years ago and I use them to put my implements on. Mine have been outside for about 5 years now and I don't see any kind of effect from weathering at all. I one small one that I use for moving 55 gallon drums of fuel off my truck when I go to the fuel station. The small one is big enough to put a 55 gallon drum on and it hold the weight fine. There is no sign of stress on it at all.

55 gallons of #2 diesel weighs about 451 pounds + an estimated 50 pounds for the barrel. So, about 500 pounds total on the pallet, and it handles the weight very well.

Not sure we have hundreds of them in the plant. I can take a look for a brand name and maybe get a picture or two. Jeff

You'll never catch me buying a pallet! Ive got wood ones coming out the wazoo and they are all free. So many businesses give them away.

I can cycle through wood ones as they break or rot.

Yes, :D I tried my friend that works at Home Depot to see if they had any lying around getting in the way, but no such luck. Their stuff comes in on wood.

On one of my late night walks I was passing behind one of our local groceries and saw the warehouse manager through an open door. They probably had 100 pallets stacked outside, both wood & plastic, so I introduced myself and said I was looking for a plastic pallet. He looked at me as if I had 3 heads & a spiked tail. After a brief discussion, he stated he was shocked that I asked for a pallet, everyone else just steals them- store loses about $10,000 a year in lost pallet deposits due to theft. Anyway, he said he had one that he was considering sending back as damaged, and graciously let me have it for free. He thanked me twice for asking before I just took one. It's a little beat up on the edges, but more than adequate for my needs. It is also very heavy & stout, weighing probably 3 or 4 times what my other one weighs.

Took a couple of pictures, includes the molded in brand name:
I'm sure there are other brands that will work just as good. Top , Bottom, Name, Corner.
Thanks for the pics Jeff, just saw them!
