opinion ? B7100 or B7200 HST - pricing?

Hello,

looking at a B7100 HST and a B7200 HST and I am wondering everyone's opinion

Tractor 1

1994 B7100 HST with 54" belly mower (mower deck pretty rough but blades etc in good condition), tractor in good shape - just over 1000 hours - $4500

Tractor 2

1985 B7200 HST with 60 inch belly mower - better shape cosmetically just a hair over 1000 hours. - $4,700

Opinion on price and models? One is newer but in rougher shape. Does 10 years between make a difference?

Thanks

As far as the B7100 that sounds about right, for comparison I just recently sold a 1997 B7100HST with no attachments in fair condition cosmetically, great mechanically for $3200.

The 7200 is a little bigger, little bigger engine too. The 7100 is a horse and almost bullet proof.

Both are excellent tractors. Some 72's have a front PTO, where is all 71 have them.

What are you doing with this new to you tractor? Cutting grass? Then I might lean to the better deck with all things being equal.

Anyway to post pictures?

Hokie, My 7100 did not have a front PTO, only mid and rear.

Just for clarification for some future reader, all B7100HST have front PTOs (or mid), gear drive do not.

For my understanding then are you saying a front is a mid pto for the B7100? Again seems to be confusion here, as I said my 1997 B7100 HST did NOT have a front PTO, but of course had a mid PTO.

yours an older version?- and right below the radiator no pto? I have two, 90 and 92 and they both have pto's right off the crank, most that had a FEL that ran the pump off the front pto. It is covered with a shield. I know several members here have a FEL and use the pto off the front.

bump to bring my photos up

Any more opinions would be helpful
Sparty, you never responded what your intended uses would be, neother has a front PTO. I believe the B7100 is more common, i.e. more parts and attachments available. Personally I would go with it and offer less, I bought mine in 2004 at 7 years old with a 5 foot NEW King Kutter rear finish mower AND a B2650 2 stage front mount blower (currently for sale btw) for $4500.

I think we have a semantics issue here. All B7100s have a rear PTO, and some with HST have a mid PTO. (that faces forward) Some B7100s have a crankshaft driven pump for FEL or snowblower, and I've seen one with a direct drive snowblower driven from the crankshaft. The crankshaft drive is not a PTO in the technical sense, as it operates at engine rpm, and not at lower, shiftable PTO speeds. (514, 876, 1498)
Power is Taken Off the crankshaft, but most people & literature do not refer to the crankshaft drive as a PTO. Otherwise, all tractors with a crankshaft would have a front PTO.

@kupitz

I only need it for mowing at this time. Maybe I would add a front or rear snow blower at a later date but not sure - I have other ways to blow snow for now.

I do not think I would add an FEL

Good point Lil Foot:)......I have all HST's ! And also true - the front (crank) PTO is not a true PTO, even though POWER TAKE OFF is what it really is, but not in what it should be called. I do know of gears having the shaft on front and no mmm pto.

Got any idea why Kubota matched it that way? Engine RPMS are constant with HST and not gear? OR?????

Now I'm getting a clear picture, sorry for the confusion, yes I had a shaft on my crank sticking out the front, I equated PTO to something that could be turned on and off, my pto selector showed mid and rear only.

Again, knowing nothing about the B7200, parts and accessories are widely available for the newer B7100HST's and like others said, a tank and a horse...you'd be surprised at what you can do with that tractor. Mine would throw snow 45 feet easily, while my neighbors B7500 was half that. Check tractordata.com and look at specs, check the mid pto rpm speeds, might be higher on the B7100.

Calling the splines on the front of the crankshaft a "PTO" is kind of stretching things a bit. There is no way to disengage and it runs at full engine rpm.

Some B6100 tractors had electric activated clutches attached to the front splined shaft that was used to power the belly mower.

You're right, I had forgotten about those, thanks.

Scary. I sure hope that one involved some sort of electric clutch!

My front mount blower came with this extension to turn the mid-PTO into a front PTO:

(with yet another, different, spline shaft. Is there a rhyme or reason for the variety of forward-facing PTO shafts on these things?)
