I need to have some hoses made and I am not certain of the size. I know that the end connectors are, but not the ID of the hoses. The particular hose is for the snowblower chute deflector on the BX2816 /BX2822. Both the cylinder that I am using and the hoses came from an older Kubot snowblower, and are in poor condition. I was thinking of using Discount Hydraulic Hose, but am open to lower cost and comparable quality from any other vendors. thanks, Dusty

The size of the fittings usually dictate the size of the hose used.
So 04 fittings use 04 hose.

Can you read the labeling on the old hose? For that 1/4" is plenty big enough.
Are looking for custom hoses or off the shelf? If you can use off the shelf lengths Surplus Center has the best price.

The present hose is 1/4" MNPT and Dan was correct, Surplus Center is the least expensive for this hose. What is your thought on adding nylon hose sleeves to the hoses? The old hoses don't have them.
Sleeving is pretty and a good way to keep them bundled together but zip ties are a lot cheaper.

You forgot something. What type of hose? The Surplus Center hose is NRP Jones R17-04 with MP-04-04 ends. Costs me more than $21 to make one. My cost for Gates 4M3K (R17-04) is $3.75/foot and another $7 for the ends.

You may want to price them out at your local NAPA or other auto parts store that makes them up, because it might be cheaper than ordering and paying shipping at today’s shipping prices.

I always try to buy locally, but sometimes the price differential is too great. I will check with NAPA in the morning to see what their price will be.

NRP Jones is cranking those stock assemblies out in lots of thousands in an automated CNC factory using their own hose and fittings.
Discount Hydraulic Hose is hand assembling individual cut to length hoses and charges material plus $10 labor and they can't compete.
Counter sales at NAPA, Parker, Motion etc are crazy expensive.

You got to be careful on quoting prices on hoses from the mail order places versus having made up locally. You aren’t always comparing apples to apples. Because the mail order places tend to use 1 wire hose in the small sizes versus 2 or 4 wire hose that most local shops carry. PSI rating may be the same, but longevity is a lot different. I have many many years of experience with using hydraulic hoses, and it makes a lot of difference with quality hoses in many situations. Just running a flapper on a snowblower a cheap hose will be fine, but I wouldn’t put one on a loader.
Surplus Center and DHS both tell you exactly what hose you are getting. - in this case NRP Jones R17 hose. Its one wire agricultural hose thats fine on the blower or any loader.
A 10 foot long R16 two wire hose is $6 more. I would personally opt for it not because of the construction but because it also has JIC female swivel ends.
