We were out last night clearing snow with our new Mx4800 hst and tried to go in high range while in 4wd and the tractor would not move lots of noise but that was it. This doesn't make any sense to me but maybe that's how it works although our L3901 would work in 4wd in any range. Anyone else encounter this same problem out there?

Yea something does not sound right.
It shouldn't make noise and not move, are you sure you are going into high and not neutral?

If you were trying to push snow, forget it. High range is like road gear, used for travel only.i cant imagine what would happen if you were plowing in high and hit something solid.

Thanks guys for the response, we got it figured out and I agree high gear is for road travel (we only plow in low) Dad was travelling from my house to his house and wanted to try the tractor in high 4wd which is still not a great idea a lot of internal gear moving too fast for something to go wrong. Cheers

Im assuming hst, and if someone is new to it,mashing go pedal like a gas pedal in car wont make it take off. Easy on pedal gives machine time to get moving.

Hope no one minds if I jump in and ask a question that's pretty relevant to some things written here...

I mow in high gear with my BX sometimes. I always mow with the FEL off and 2wd. No loaded tires or extra weight.

I used to mow in low, then tried it in high once and got done so much sooner I loved it. Is this a bad idea?

Nope. If you are straining the hydro, you'll know- the whine will increase to a dramatic level.
I mowed all the time in high on my B7100, and would use low when it was too steep for high range.

NS kubota, you got it figured out, but if you'd tell us what the solution was. Your response here could help someone else so they won't have to ask the same question!
