Mowers: RFM vs MMM - 72" for B-Series

Recently bought a B3030 and will need to buy a mower for it in the next month or so. I have 6 or 7 very flat acres that I mow and my property has a number of trees. I do own a 60" zero turn that had been high maintenance, and I want to upgrade to 72"

It looks like Rear Finish Mowers are about $1000-1500 less expensive, but not as good at navigating around trees.

Do any of you have experience with the larger Mid Mount Mowers?

I notice a MMM that is two years old for $2700+ freight (guessing $300+). My local dealer will get me the same one new for $3450. A 72" RFM would be $2500 or so shipped.

Part of the reason I went with the tractor model I did was since it has a mid PTO that could handle 72". That said, the one that I bought didn't come with a mower and I want to make sure I feel good about my decision.

What do you recommend?

Based on your needs......I would get the rear.....You find a nice used one for $1500 if you look hard enough

I have a B2650 with a 60 in mmm for mowing couple acres around the house. It mows awesome and I am very happy with it. I would have got the 72in but wouldnt fit where I need to park tractor. The tractor would handle the 72in no problem. I also have a Land Pride 72in 3pt mower for mowing 4 acres out back which works great also. The reason for the Land Pride is that out back is a little rough and didnt want to tear up my mmm. So I have experience with both and both work well. Just my 2 cents for you I would go with the mmm due to you have some flat ground and I would think would be easier to navigate the trees that you have. My Kubota mmm is set up nice to put on and take off and can have it off in about 4 minutes to go do other work. Good luck.

I guess it's a matter of preference but I would rather have a RFM than a truck load of MMM. Once used to it you can cut just as close to trees and it sure is easy to remove when another implement is needed.

Don't go cheap though. A low quality mower cuts like crap and you'll never be satisfied. Get a good one with a high blade tip speed like a Bushhog brand for example. Not trying to push a brand except for the fact that I own one myself and have had almost perfect service from it since 2000.
