I guess the govt is hurting for money after spending so much. I wonder how much the investigation cost, and how many people made a decision based on the stickers on the parts. Zero?

While the article doesn't say what exactly the items are, I am willing to bet it is more than zero.
I'm glad they got hammered. Hopefully more companies do.

I wonder what parts it was? I’ve never expected to get a “made in USA” part for my Japanese tractor that says “assembled in USA”…I would probably be suspicious if it was made in USA 🤣

Yeah, fraudulent labeling is a big problem.

But, I think, Land Pride is still mostly made in the United States. Not in Usa, a city in Japan.

I'll Stihl (pun intended) buy Kubota Japanese compacts over JD, or wait, I mean Yanmar, compact tractors.

I try to buy American. But it's hard. My Ford SuperDuty was made in 'Merica, but I think the 6.2 liter gas engine was made in Mexico. Same with my Jeep truck and it's 3.6 V6.

My Polaris SXS was made in space somewhere in the sky that sucks parts from USA, Canada, Mexico and China. And my Honda quads were made in 'merica or Japan with Japanese and Taiwanese parts.

The manufacturer brand is King. The rest is a crap shoot.

You will get no argument from me about that.

The federal government has, indeed, resorted to looting of the private sector in recent years.

Kubota will just have hire some lobbyist to get the money to the politicians early enough there will be no fines.

Wonder what the legal definition of 'Made in USA' is ? Really how much of the 'product' needs to be made in USA ?
I've seen labels with 'country of origin' being FILLED with countries.
Heck, aren't TESLAs made in CHINA now ??? APPLES are....

Tesla's Shanghai plant, its biggest globally, is capable of producing 1.1 million units of Model 3 and Model Y cars a year

so pretty sure a LOT of the parts, internal to 'Made in USA' will be coming from China

It goes back to what the legal definition of 'Made in USA' is. Does the guv require a percentage of the parts or specific parts to allow 'made in USA' ? Obviously the guv has a law somewhere on the books....

I always find this interesting (as a non-American, and from a country that's too small to ever pretend we could make everything we need ourselves).

So Tesla (American owned) has a big plant in China. Do the Chinese like buying American stuff? Why is it that Americans are so interested in buying made in America, but at the same time like to export lots of things? It seems weird to be so keen on exporting yet so opposed to importing.

Of course, America has a pretty big trade deficit, so despite the keenness for made in America, actually you import more than you export. Although I seem to recall when you add up all the countries in the world you find out the world runs a trade deficit with itself - basically the numbers aren't as good as we'd like them to be anyway.

The reality in today's world is it's pretty hard to have any complex product that is 100% made in one country. Even if it's just bolts and nuts, there'll be stuff in it that was made overseas, that's the reality of global supply chains.
