I have been searching the interwebby trying to find a 2" round auger extension 15" or 18". I was kind of surprised tractor supply didn't show one. I need to drill 3 holes 48" deep and my augers are all 3' - normally plenty for what I do with them.
Years ago, for my last PHD, I had a local machine shop make me a 12" extension. He charged be $50. I don't expect to find that again (he retired) but the prices I see for 24" ones are hard to take (and I'd have to cut it down and drill it).
I'm tempted to ask my son to machine me one but don't want to impose on his time, yet.

Any suggestions?

Maybe you're being too kind hearted. Did he every impose on your time while you were raising him? It's part of learning how to be part of a community and unselfish!

Why not just buy a 4 ft auger?
other than I already have the 2 diameter augers I need and would have a really hard time justifying buying a new auger that I would hardly ever use. An extension would give me that extra length on 2 existing augers, should I need that.

Yes I know it's longer than you want but a easily cut down, or if you shaft is hollow just add another pin hole.

you already have 3' augers and a 12" extension... doesn't that add up to 4 feet ?
or am I missing something ?

lol, I 'had' a 12" extension. When I sold that last PHD the extension went with it.

Thanks for that link - I'm pretty sure it will work.

Let me get this correct...... You had a PHD and auger and sold it, then you purchased another PHD and augers? Why?

Yeah we are talking about 20 years ago. I needed to plant over 100 4X4's in he woods for a dog fence and to put in some trees. Found a beater PHD. Because some of the 4X4's had to go in 4' I needed the extension. Job over and I got tired of looking at the PHD. Sold it for what I paid for it (about $300 iirc).

In anticipation of needing one again I picked up this one a couple of years ago. So far used it for plantings but now need to plant some I beams 4' deep.

I solved the extension issue. I ordered in a length of 2" steel rod and a 6" piece of steel tubing, 2" id with 1/4" wall. Shipping on one of the extensions recommended above was $132 - wtf

Hopefully you ordered DOM/seamless tubing and not regular tubing.

The previous owner left that doghouse - another project to get rid of.
