Looking at either a Landpride RCR1884 or RCF2084 Rotary Cutter. Best I can tell is only difference is the 20 series has a smooth top. However, specs says it weighs maybe 200 pounds more. Also, I'm told the underside of the 20 is not smooth but the structure is exposed which may not cut as well in wet material.

Anyone have a recommendation on these?

Hard to tell, I pulled up the specs on LP site and sure couldn't figure it out, may have to contact them or your dealer, I "think" some cutters have smooth top and bottom with supports sandwiched in between, just don't know if that's the case here. I've run an RCR2672 for years and really like it. For bigger jobs I use a 10' pull type on another tractor.

Dealer I purchased my tractor from is pushing the 1884. He is the one that said the 2084 has the structure below the deck. Two other dealers I spoke too couldn't verify, but both of them said they sell either the 18 or the 26. Never recall selling a 20. I originally wanted the heavier 2684, just because, but all my other stuff works with my Cat 1 QH, and the 26 would be on the think currently that wouldn't.

What tractor are you going to use to run it?
Did you get a new one or are you still using the MX5100 to run it?

If it was me I would look at the RCD 1884 dual spindle cutter. Get the same width cut but doesn't stick out no where near as much as a standard 84" does. Have better maneuverability and lower the hitch weight so it would be easier on a smaller tractor. I have a 3008 Bushhog and really like it alot. The dual spindle cuts nice.

I think they only offer it with a 10" offset. Will have to look back at it.

What about a flail mower?

Opinions on those?

With that size tractor I prefer a twin spindle 8', we use a 10' twin spindle on our M8540.

I agree with TripleR, I would look at a twin spindle 8'. The 2008 Bushhog might be a good option. With the total length being shorter I think the twin 8' would be easier to pull than a single 7' would be.

Haven't come across that one before, but that is very nice. Will look at.

I only suggested the 2008 instead of the 3008 because of weight. It shows to be about 500 lbs lighter which would be better on a smaller tractor. I've never used a 2008 but if it's like it's big brother I'm sure it's a good cutter.

I have an LP RCR 1260 and I wouldn't go any larger than that on a single blade. Your tip velocity gets really out of whack (pardon the pun) from the core velocity and so much more force gets applied to the blade and gearbox if it comes to a sudden stop. While they are engineered for this, it's still unnerving to me to go much over a 5' blade.

I'd suggest any of these that will fit your budget:

I know you're looking for a 7' instead of a 6', but thought I'd weigh in with my experience regarding the RCF2072. I've always been a huge fan of LandPride implements. Got it new back in August. The decals started coming off within weeks of using it. Partly from brush rubbing up against it, partly from rinsing it off with a water hose....not high pressure! The paint is already coming off on the sides. I do mostly pasture mowing, but sometimes cut saplings up to 2". I got the chains installed on the back. The band that holds them is bent on the ends because they're not secured to the deck. After mowing this afternoon the side of the deck had a bend in it from going backwards over the saplings I'd just cut.

Not sure what my options are at this point......have some structural steel welded to the sides or see what I can get the dealer to do in upgrading to a heavier mower.

I've got a Landpride 5' light duty mower doing the same tasks that's 13 yrs old and has only minor bends in the deck.

As I say I've always been happy with the service of my previous LP implements.

I forgot to mention that the RCF2072 is a smooth top with the structural members underneath.
