L2502 wont start

Curious as to why the WSM would show two different #3's
One is just a cover, the other shows an actual lever

Different versions of the same engine, but that's not what you need to take off.

Pull the side cover with the oil fill port.
You need to align the rack with the slot in the block (yellow) to remove the Injection pump.


Hope you pulled the whole idle assembly out as one peice!

I did, had to move the hydraulic regulator valve in the process.
Something the WSM don't tell you.

I'm assuming these are the rack and slot?
I cannot move the injector to line them up because of the studs on top and the rack wont move either when I push it. I didn't push too hard, don't want to break more. Should it move easily?

Yes the injector rack should move very easily.
On some models you need to remove the 2 springs off of the linkage to get the govenor linkage out of the way.
It does not appear to be your case.

If the rack is not moving easily, you're in some serious muck (that's putting it very PG).
That indicates major debris has gotten into the pump and probably has done damage.
It's going to take a professional rebuild to fix it.

The only way to get the pump out is to force the rack to move to the slot.

I guess the (only) good news is I'm on the right path.

The only way to get the pump out is to force the rack to move to the slot.

Word of warning:
If you disassemble it you will not be able to set the timing curve on the individual injectors on reassembly.
In doing so, will it run, yes, will it run right NO.

Also note:
If that much junk got into the injection pump, the chances that all the injectors are contaminated / damaged / plugged it highly likely too.

I already called the dealer and they are going to work on it. I've done enough damage already.

Should I take those out to be cleaned/replaced anyways?
