I just bought a 500 hour B7100 HST. The tractor has a 60” deck, a 4’ Muratori tiller and a 4’ finish mower (which I’ll likely sell). The tractor is in near mint condition (looks garaged) and I gave $5000 for the lot.

Is the price out of line? It’s a 1980, is there anything I need to watch out for or address as a weak point?

For B7100 in this case looks like a good deal...Just take note that it has a 3 digit hour meter. That at 500 hours would average out to maybe 12 Hours. a year?
But looking at the pictures it could be true? In any case it's sweet deal.

For that amount of money and the other pieces I would say you did very well!

That is not a 1980 machine - that is a post 1990 machine btw.

Post more pictures if you do not mind - engine, front end.

The B7100 is maybe the most common machine big K made in the 90's and like an old Ford 8N there are thousands and thousands of them still working well.

You will find the B7100 to be a billy goat on steroids - it will go up slopes and cut grass like no other machine - and it is almost bullet proof if taken care of. Yours seems to be well cared for.

Great looking B7100! I think you did well on the price. I purchased my Late (post 90) B7100 with 800 hours in 2009 . Came with a the mid mount mower but no other attachments. I paid $4600 for mine.

After owning mine I think these are well built and engineered tough little tractors. A few of the weak points are the dynamo bearings. Not sure you can do any thing to prevent that failure other than to keep the fan belt properly tensioned? My bearings went out around the 1100 hour mark. The seat pan gave up around the same time. It fractured around the pivot brackets. Again I do not think you can do any thing proactive to keep it from happening. A item that seems to happen is when the tractor is left outdoors. Water can migrate down the inside of the steering wheel/shaft and cause failure of the steering box. The last issue is keeping your rear axle hubs tightened properly as many of these tractors have rear axle hub failures.

Precautionary note, there is no water temp gauge on these tractors but does have the steam whistle . Pays to make sure your radiator, oil cooler and radiator screen are kept clean and radiator coolant level correct. No overflow catch can either. When I top mine off it will always burb some coolant out the whistle as it expands and cools till it finds the level it likes.

Congrats and I am sure you will enjoy the little beast!

side note; the gray painted areas on mine had developed that chalky look also. After a good workout with a wax/polish and once or twice a year follow up those areas still look brand new.

I’m not at home. I’ll have to have someone send me the pic, but I’ll post it as soon as I get it.

My name is Josh BTW- it’s my initials and last name.

Considering all the pictures you posted I would not question the hour meter having turned over once. Now way! It's a nice, well kept machine.

Nice tractor, and congratulations! My first tractor was a 90 B7100, 642 hours. It was garage kept and in excellent condition, and it came with a finish mower. I paid $3500, but that was 12 years ago, and the economy sure is different. So, I think that you got a good deal. As mentioned, the B7100 is a tough tractor, capable of work that will defy its size.

It was exceptionally clean- that's the original paint on the frame. No fading. Original seat, too, with no tears.
