Hi my name is Charles and I just purchased a very used bobcat 743. The machine is circa 95. It has a v1702 4 cyl water cooled engine.

I was wondering if anyone here had worked on a similar engine?

This is the biggest engine I have ever owned when it comes to equipment.

Wonderful and amazing engine for sure. It needs some TLC that over time I will be able to fix.

I'm really enjoying the searches here.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!
I also have a 743, although I haven't figured out what year it is. Mine also has a 1702, which is a wonderful engine.

This might help. Here is a manual that has routine maintenance info on same engine. Manual is for a Man-Lift but you can extrapolate.

Hey hodge/coachgeo!

Really cool forum here.

Today we are trying to take the creep out of the machine, while my buddy was doing that I was cleaning looking for hydraulic leaks.

Boy this is a dirty job when someone doesn't maintain their equipment.

One of the first things I did was to replace the old 3 piece fuel filter with a newer model base and modern filter.

We made a mess with that filter. Kind of read later on that night about the shut off and all coming from the fuel intake line. Boy my neighbors must think I'm a huge redneck.

The bobcat filters we used we coudln't seal. Previous "service tech" had 2 gaskets together on the top side of the old filter. We couldn't seal the new Bobcat one and then decided put old nasty one with 2 gaskets.

Will try to tackle again. Whats that modern based set up look like/ what made it eaiser to manage?

I too have a 743 and just replace the head and it's running great, still need to replace the injectors as it's very hard to start.

You can get a lot of parts for it from http://stores.allskidsteers.com/
I got all new Decals off EBay at http://www.ebay.com/itm/252175149883
I've also gotten new latches and pins off EBay.

I will send you a PM of a download link of all three manuals for the 743.
(If anyone else would like them just ask)

I've done the adjustment for the creep, not too bad to do, it's touchy and the brake on this model is lacking and commonly gets worn out from non release.

I washed mine down with purple cleaner to get all the oil, grease, and crud off of it before I worked on mine.
