Could I swap a Detroit 1-71 into my Kubota B7510? It would make around 30-40 hp, but since the tractor is designed for a 15-20 hp engine, would a more powerful one break anything?

With enough money and time, anything is possible. But I doubt very much that it would be a straight bolt-in.

I don't think the B7510 has an external frame, so the engine is a stressed structural member. The thing you break could be the new engine unless you fabricate some sort of sub-frame to carry the loads.

Have fun and take pictures. Lots of pictures. We must have pictures!!!

No, it definitely wouldn't be a bolt-in job. Thanks for the information on the frame.

The 7510 is the exact same as its 26hp (7610) the hydro will be just fine I would think.

A 1-71 is closer to 25 hp than 40, I think. I can't imagine giving up a 61 cu in 3 cyl for 71 cu in 2 stroke! Gotta feeling sheet metal would have to go.

Interesting read on the 1-71:

After reading that article I'm going to assume he does not have a 1-71 Detroit.

Yeah. Hiighlights include:
Weight: 875 lbs.
Power (Continuous) 15 HP @1200 rpm
Power (Max) 25 HP @ 1600 rpm
Lifespan above 1200 rpm: "minutes"
Fuel consumption: 1 gallon per hour @ 1600 rpm
Years of production: 1938 to 1940 (estimated)
Number produced: <1,000 (estimated)
Number of known survivors: 79
Current price on collector's market: "If you have to ask you can't afford it".

So, to answer the OP's original question: The first thing to break if you try to get 30 - 40 hp out of it will be the engine. The most economical solution would be to sell the 1-71 and buy a 30-40hp tractor with the proceeds. Take the bride out for a nice dinner with the change. :ROFLMAO:

But if he does do the swap, I still want pictures.

I wasn't considering actually doing the swap, nor do I have the engine. I just wondered if it could work, or what would happen if it did. The more I've learned about them the less they make sense for anything other than a generator.
