Hi,I have an old b6000 2cyclinder that was left in the barn when we brought the house and I have had it running but it's not good,I was wondering if I could put a different kubota engine on it

Are you sure that you need to swap engines?

Thanks for replying,I think so the water pump and Dynamo don't work, there's a knocking in the engine, rocker arm and cover are broken and after pricing up just these bits it seems like a newer engine is a better answer as this is very old and new parts are getting harder to find, that why I was wondering if another engine would fit on to the transmission bell housing

That engine is unique to that tractor, you cannot replace it with other engines.
#1 issue is it spins the opposite direction as all other Kubota's. ;)

Any idea why Kubota would build an engine that runs in reverse of accepted normal? I heard of airplanes and boats with two engines spinning one in opposite to balance the torque of the other engine.
What's the though on single engine tractor? Jeff

Here are my thoughts.

An aussie designed it. Everything's backwards down under, including the rotation of the toilet water I believe.

Kubota wanted it to turn backwards. Their payback for Hiroshima? "Stupid round-eye'"

Seriously, they probably had a transmission that needed a CCW rotation, so they just re-engineered the engine to fit the rest of the tractor.

In other words, I have no idea....:D

The ZL600 runs backwards and The Z600 is normal. Do these engines share any components? Maybe same engines with different gears out front to change injector pump rotation? Just thinking. Jeff

I know the B6000 has a counter-clockwise PTO shaft but that doesn't mean the engine turns clockwise. Would you be able to provide a link that supports your statement - I can't seem to find one. I'm not saying you're wrong but just wanted to make sure.

Look at the engine and see what side the exhaust manifold is on. You'll see if it is turning clockwise or counter-clockwise. And the engine to the PTO is without any gears to change rotation direction.

If one is sitting on the seat of a tractor the "normal" engine rotation is counter-clockwise and the PTO will be spinning clockwise.

You stated the B6000's PTO is connected directly to the engine. We all agree that the PTO is spinning in the opposite direction of "normal" so it's spinning counter-clockwise and therefore the engine is spinning counter-clockwise - which is the same direction as a "normal" engine.
