Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitar players ever - often under appreciated as a "great" guitar player.

Loved his stuff with Dire Straits.

Back in the late 80's I was fortunate enough to see Knopler play with Eric Clapton one of my other guitar heroes. It was amazing how they interacted. Phil Collins was on the drums as well.

Playing guitar and singing is hard. According to my bride I shouldn't sing while I play guitar as I am not much of a singer?

Knopfler is like Clapton and Jeff Beck in that he likes to share the spotlight and let members of his band get the spotlight.

It was fun to watch him drag Nashville studio great Paul Franklin with his pedal steel into the studio and then out on tour with Dire Straits on one of their last tours back in the early 90's. He surrounds himself with awesome musicians but doesn't seem to have a huge ego. He has held on to his humble beginnings.

Same with Beck. If you haven't seen the workshop Jeff Beck has where he builds hot rods, that is a fun one...

There are some rising stars out there,, and I do, of course wish them well. I just hope they do not burn out like so many young ones of the past have done

PBS has a program on right now with a bunch of tne greats on, flat pickers on up, fastest fingers I ever saw.
