Hi all, I recently purchased an L2250 and am going through all of the basic maintenance. What does everyone recommend for oil? The book stated 10w-30, but I also have some 15w-40 diesel on hand. The tractor shows ( I believe an accurate ) 735 hours currently.

Any other recommendations for basic checks/maintenance is very welcome. Thanks!

15w40 Diesel rated oil is perfectly fine to use.

If the temps where you are get reaaaaaalllll cold - you may want to switch to 5w-40 - Rotella makes that in their T6 variety - sometimes it is harder to find than 15w-40

They do dip down, but usually not below the 20s-30s F for long (doubt Id be doing much with the tractor at that point lol).

Is there also a readily available transmission oil that is recommended? Im going to service the steering boxes and transmission while Im at it.

Without looking up your model - is that geared or HST?

I use Mystik JT5 as a reasonably cheap alternative to Kubota UDT.

Just a couple FYI’s…

I use the T6 85Hokie posted a picture of. I do use mine for snow blowing.

The 5w allows much easier starts than 15w. Used both. Just an FYI in case you notice hard cold starts. Otherwise, stick with the 15w-40.

The Mystic JT5 North Idaho Wolfman posted has been his favorite for a long time.

Great for your tractor. Usually in my local Tractor Supply store.

Since your tractor is a gear transmission it is not critical to use Kubota’s latest and greatest hydraulic fluid.

Your tractor is much more forgiving than one with a hydrostatic transmission (HST). Don’t let anyone convince you you need Kubota branded SUDT2 in your gear drive tractor.

SUDT2 won’t hurt it, but much more expensive than perfectly good alternatives.

Thanks all, that's sounds like a plan. Im actually having a heck of a time finding the right hydraulic filter, so might have to put it off until I can.

I was looking up filter compatibility to find a local filter, and saw the Baldwin BT8488 available at Napa. Has anyone used that before?

Baldwin filters are fine to use.
Don't know if that's the right number or not.

Sounds good, I ordered the Kubota filter, but Im going to see if I can compare the 2 when it comes in to see if the Baldwin is an alternative. Ill post when I do.
