I have a BX1850. The battery is shot, just wondering what would be a good replacement. I bought this machine used so I don't know how long this battery lasted, there no markings on it. I live in Nova Scotia. thanks

Find the largest one with the highest CCAs that fit the box.

Measure the current battery's LxWxH - go to where you want to buy the battery and simply do the math.

Make sure the terminals are "correct" - what I mean is they are placed so that the cables can reach, I had a honda civic one time - because the terminals where placed towards one edge, spinning the battery around 180 degrees made the cables too short to reach!;)

Also check, if you have an VOM - see if the charge is at least 12.5 volts .....sitting on the shelf over a long period of time a battery will lose a little spunk!

I totally agree with 85Hokie.

My batteries come from Costco or Sam's Club because of their excellent warranties. No need to spend big bucks. WalMart is also a possibility.

To reiterate:
>measure your battery box LxWxH and buy the largest that will fit.
>look for the most CCA
>make sure the + and - battery posts are located where the cables can reach them
>check the water level and use distilled water to fill to the indicator (most batteries are shipped with low water)
>put a battery charger on the battery for a few hours before mounting it

If you really want to be fancy, route a long cable from the negative battery post to the engine block. You'll get maximum starting power.

I just called my Kubota dealer and they gave me the number and recommended a local battery place as it was much cheaper than the ones they could get.

Measuring will get you there too, I just took a shortcut.

I've tried cheap batteries without much luck. I have had mixed results from Wally batteries, some bad but mostly fair. So far the best I've tried have been the factory kubota battery and a Optima. Cost more for either one but had zero problems.

Thanks for the suggestions. I also looked at the Kubota video provided by TripleR, Kubota Bob suggests a minimum CCA of 850. The battery in this BX is on the small side, the best I found so far has been 790 CCA for a BX size battery. I'll keep looking.

850 CCA would do the job but I can't imagine your BX requiring that much battery. The 790 CCA will work just fine.

I am with Bulldog ! - 790 cca's will be enough to spin the ol' three banger over ;)
