Full Size -vs- Compact -vs- Sub Compact

Much of the terminology in the world we live in has been influenced as much by the marketing departments as by the engineers/designers. I don't worry too much about what to call my tractor choices except "too small", "just right" and "too big". Three names for ranges that cover it all.

Newb: Possible B7500 or B2400 purchase

I owned a B7500 / HST / LA302 Loader for 10 years. It could have used a few extra horses when the grass was thick, or going uphill mowing, or.... If given the choice and they were similarly equipped and in good shape I'd pick the 24 B2400. I sold the B7500 and bought a new L3200 almost a year...

6 more hours to first service

Someone posted about rigging a shop vac into the fill hole while changing the filter. It worked for me when I did the 50 hour service on mine. I used a piece of PVC pipe stuck into my small shop vac hose and taped up. Then I stuck the other end of the pipe just into the fill hole. There was...

    Is cruise control worth having??

Two of the four tractors I've had in the past 23 years had CC. I didn't like it, so I didn't use it.

    New L3200 Loader/Backhoe

Congrats on the L3200. I have a little over 60 hours on mine since early last summer and absolutely love it. You're right about the size. My B7500 worked OK for 10 years but it was often marginal in weight and size. The L3200 is not too big and heavy for finish mowing and mine sees a lot of...

    7040, dumbest toolbox ever!

My L3200 may be a runner-up for poor toolbox location. It WAS behind the seat on a crossmember of the ROPS. I promptly broke the lid off not long after getting the tractor. I had the seat flipped forward so the sun wouldn't heat it and had the toolbox lid open when I flipped the seat back up...

    Grooming Mower

I prefer a rear finish mower. My first tractor had a belly mower and the last three have had RFM's. My first RFM was a 5' side discharge Caroni bought from Central Tractor when they had a store near me. Parts are still available from Agrisupply. I still have it and the old Ford 1210 I bought...

    BX v B

Ten years ago I went shopping and the final choice was between a BX and a B7500. The BX felt, spec'd and looked too small so I went with the B7500 and a 5' RFM. My preference is a RFM and unless you have one of those yards with a laughable number of ornaments it would do just fine. There...

How long do you warm up your tractor?

Years ago a co-worker caught fire while warming himself in front of a kero gun heater. The knees of his Carhartts were frayed badly and it didn't take very long for him to dance around smacking his leg. He escaped physical injury but suffered a lot of ribbing.

How long do you warm up your tractor?

When I recently plumbed the heater in my L3200 I put brass valves in the cab so it could be bypassed on warm days. On a cold night last week I started it up and drove it around a little to see how the heater would work. Started it up and backed out of the shed, then proceeded to the mailbox at...

    Frozen ballisted tires

At work we have a Montana and there's a place in Harrisburg where we had the tires foamed. It was done to add weight and prevent flats. I can likely get you info on it if you want. Edit to Add: Here's a weight calculator: http://flatproofing.com/weight-estimator/ We used Service Tire in...

new tractor .. good price ?

Maybe they had a price increase since I bought mine this past summner. My L3200 HST w/ an LA524 loader was about $1500 below that.

    rear diff lock

I press down on mine with my heel while using my right foot to work the hydro pedal. Think of it as an unsynchronized gear shift. Brute force isn't good here. Never stomp on the diff lock, just keep pressure on it till it meshes.

    Kubota L3200 Drawbar

I want to be sure I don't mislead you. Here's what I'm calling the drawbar on my tractor. It's the steel bar that slides into a receiver on the rear and has a clevis hanging on it:

    Kubota L3200 Drawbar

My L3200 came with a drawbar and as far as I know there was no extra cost. I opted not to get cruise control. My Ford has it and my B7500 had it but I never used it.

    Kubota Model Numbers

Some people have different ideas about tractors, based on where they grew up. For example, I was raised in town and this past summer when the B7500 went away and I got the L3200 - I thought I had a pretty beefy machine. Wifey (farm girl) was telling someone about the new tractor. In an...

    A walk back in time

Here's a video I really enjoyed. I wonder how many "takes" were required for the plumber to flip that oil tank into the hole and get the pipe fittings straight up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70CtKdw8d-o
