    What tools?

You aren't going to need the creeper and a couple of those smaller screwdrivers but the rest is legit.

    4wd

I have an L2501 but same problem. It goes into 4WD fairly easily with the suggestions above but getting it out of 4WD requires turning the steering lock to lock sometimes. Other times I get lucky and it works fine. From what I've gathered, it's normal. Just have to get used to it.

Getting those little 'R' clips off without losing them

Sometimes there isn't enough room for a decent size lynchpin so they use 'R' clips. The bigger ones that your finger fits in are Ok but the tiny ones are a bear to get in and out sometimes. I modified an old pair of pliers by drilling a hole near the end and they work so well I'm posting it...

L3010 HST Wont start, I'm puzzled

I'm with Mark, the starter relay should operate on far less than 12 volts. If a new one isn't too dear I'd replace it and go from there. If they want way too much I'd take it apart, there might be a miniature mouse nest in it.

L3010 HST Wont start, I'm puzzled

You say the start relay checks out Ok. So, when the relay is closed do you get voltage at the starter motor? You replaced the positive battery connector. If you measure between the battery post and the positive cable you should get ~zero volts with the ignition switch on start. Anything more...

    Seafoam

I was going to ask why they call it Sea foam but I googled it and got the answer. /* The formula became quite popular among his fishing friends. He began selling it to local fishermen in beer bottles and quart jars, naming the formula “Sea Foam” after a friend in Florida called and asked for...

Fuel filter complete vs Fuel element for L3901

I must not be understanding something. My manual(L2501) says to clean the fuel filter element every 100 hours and replace it every 400. Not worth cleaning IMO, I would just replace it. The filter bowl should not have to be replaced unless it gets damaged. Here is a video from a guy who got a...

Starter will not engage pto switch was knocked loose

I'm not sure what the problem is at this point. - The tractor will not start if the PTO is engaged. - Once the tractor has been started, the PTO can be engaged without having the engine stop.

Starter will not engage pto switch was knocked loose

Sounds like you haven't got the PTO switch back where it needs to be. PTO is one of the interlocks so if the tractor thinks the PTO is engaged it won't let you start it.

Does a rear finish mower leave piles of grass?

I find it surprisingly good. The side discharge Ford 916B leaves a row from all three blades, the rear discharge FDR1660 spreads the clippings out evenly behind, even if the grass is a bit long.

    What were the engineers thinking?

Those are pretty nice Mr. Hokie. I hope you made enough to share with the whole class. :)

    What were the engineers thinking?

Just turned mine over, there was at least 1/2" of exposed bolt out the bottom to bang on stuff. Seems like round head pins with a cotter pin hole in the other end would be Ok since you guys are saying they need to be a bit loose.

    Insurance ?

Well, my homeowner policy covers a compact tractor up to $15K. I got extra insurance to cover the L2501 for fire, theft, vandalism, and some other stuff for under $20 a month. Only on my property though which is fine. I'm mostly concerned about fire and theft. Thanks for the suggestions. Mike

    Top link Made in England

My Dad would have bought this used in the early 1970s so it could be more than 60 years old. I've freed it up and am using it anyway. I thought 'Made in England' was odd so googled a bit. A lot of you guys probably know this stuff but for anyone who would like to find out about how the 3...

    Do you name your equipment?

I don't name machinery but my sister does. She named the L2501 and next thing I know, it's on my hat. Not too bad I guess.
