    Bolt Trouble

The set screw was located in the hole on the right hand side of the housing. That is wear you see on the pin, but that's not what was not letting it come out, it was the housing on both ends of the pin that had it captured. It didn't want to start moving until both ends were orange in color.

    Bolt Trouble

The pin is out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The thrill of victory. Drilled both ends to 1/2" as deep as I could, heated both ends of the casting to orange, then laid on it with a flogging hammer. Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk

    Bolt Trouble

This mornings up date: Concentrated on pulling the motor. It's now free and hanging but won't come completely out. The hydraulic suction tube (tube on top of the pump) is just barely big enough so that it won't let the motor come out. Turned it loose at the reservoir end to see if that gives me...

    Bolt Trouble

I have the assembly off the tractor. The only thing that keeps the pin in place is a pointed set screw which I removed. The only way to remove the pin is to remove the housing from the motor so you can get to the back of the pin. After applying some heat the first time, I shot grease into the...

    Bolt Trouble

Here's todays report. Pulling the motor and going to take it back to Houston with me. There is a company there that specializes in engine block repairs. Going to let them do their thing on the bad holes, and remove the the broken studs in the bottom 2 holes. I'll go with 7/16" bolts again so or...

    Bolt Trouble

After weighing all the options I think I'll pull the motor and carry it back to Houston. There is a company there that specializes in motor block repairs. This way I won't have to take anything off the motor except the oil pan. Their charge is $80 per hour, so this might be the best way to go.

Don't know if this will help or not. I know I have a dilemma. First one is when I had it apart for the repairs last time Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk

    Bolt Trouble

Funny you bring it up, I'm a "highly skilled" production, maintenance, not automotive retired machinist and removed hundreds of broken bolts, and installed probably as many thread repair devices. I think it's boiling down to having to remove the engine, either to replace the block or to fill and...

    Bolt Trouble

I beginning to think I'm screwed on this. With the helicoils pulled out it means the holes are now the major diameter of the helicoil. What that means is that they are already larger than the tap drill size for a 1/2" bolt. In turn, I don't think any type of thread insert will work. Hate to...

    Bolt Trouble

A few weeks ago the bolts that hold the front axel on my 2wd L175 with FEL broke and allowed the front housing to part from the front of the motor. I successfully drilled out the 3 broken bolts. I then installed 7/16" 20 helicons, went back with grade 8 bolts, torqued to 65# lubricated. Thought...

    L175 Axle Problem

Victory is mine, finally got it apart. Rust around the bottom studs had it captured. Got it from here. Thanks to all who took time to reply.

    L175 Axle Problem

Does the axle pivot pin screw into the front housing or the motor block? Tried splitting, something the won't let go. Don't know if it's rust around the studs or the pivot pin holding it. If it is the pin it looks like a bear to get out. Also thanks for the link to the PDF files.

    L175 Axle Problem

Getting back to work on it after helping a neighbor cut down a tree. Are there any hidden bolts, or are they all expose including the studs. It started to move, but I'm guessing it's still tight on the what look like the alignment dowels. Having a loader in front, Sort of restricts how far I...

    L175 Axle Problem

That's where I was trying, no luck. Was going to put some heat on it, but some dummie forgot to turn his acetylene bottle off, and my supplier was closed and won't be open till Monday.

    L175 Axle Problem

Well, yesterday started off with my 3 point not wanting to go down, OK I'll check on it as soon as I dump this load of caliche from the loader. While going down the road I noticed the hood not mating up with the dash as it should. Looked down and saw a separation of the front axle assembly and...
