Bx2380 started on its own

It seems that they did not do very good troubleshooting the first time around. They just replaced the obviously perished starter motor but did not look for the cause of problem. I agree with GSD-Keegan, the ring gear might have seen the equivalent of zillion starts and the second starter might have a shortened life if it also ran several times while the engine was running.

When I was a kid, I had a 1977 Suzuki 100 motorcycle. My father replaced the points ignition with a CDI ignition.
On occasion I would kick start it and the engine would run backwards. I would put it in gear, let out the clutch and it would start moving backwards. I would shut it off and restart it and it would run as usual.

Two cycle engines will run in the rotation they are started. I made a weed eater 2-cycle into a trolling motor for a canoe. I had to change the pull rope orientation to get it to start the opposite (of factory) direction to get the propeller to rotate correctly.

Kind of sucks the switch went band on a brand new BX23s with only 20 light duty operational hours.

I think faults of this nature are exactly what warranty are for - things that are basically broken or near broken from factory. Electrical stuff shouldn't really wear out, it means it was defective.

I agree with others, I'd be worried about things beyond just the starter and the electrics. A starter that's been grinding away on the ring gear can't be a good thing. Perhaps at least an oil change and presumably when you pull the starter you can see the teeth on the flywheel, and see if they at least look OK.

once engine is started, it's RPM releases starter pinion . least that's how they usually work,well the ones I've had.... cept of course for the 'starter/generator' versions...

You used it like that?
In my experience they don't run backwards very well because the port timing is wrong.
Dump lots of raw fuel out the exhaust too.

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a bx2380 maybe a 1yr old. I hauled up to my lease this past weekend about 3hrs away and when I got there the tractor was running. The key was inside my truck. The instrument panel was off. I put the key in turn it then off and it shut off. I hauled it around my lease all day Saturday and it never did again Saturday. Sunday I loaded back up and started to head home and got about a hour down the road and stop to check it and it was running again.
Turn it off again. I was able to make the rest of the way without it starting again.
Called 2 dealers and they never heard this happening before. Anyone have had this happen before or heard of it?

Just had mine do this twice today when I was changing blades.

And how long have you owned it.

I would inform kubota directly, then follow up the the Consumer protection agency if they do not respond.

I have a BX23S and am having the same problem. It has been starting on its own when being trailered since new. I have had it two years and has 129 hours. It only happened twice before the latest issue. The starter engaged while running and almost burned the whole thing down! Had the dealer pick it up to find out it’s not covered under warranty ( only 24 months on electronics,) I was 3 months past, was led to believe it was a 5 year warranty when I purchased it new! My fault for not double checking and listening to a salesman.. Contacted Kubota and was basically told tuff shit. Buyer beware Kubota does NOT stand behind their products!! Dealer wasn’t any better, but was willing to throw a bunch of parts at it for $1600! Got the tractor back and put a new starter on it and it seemed to work fine, until I put it on the trailer, yep. Was running when I got home. So now I am going to be digging into the wiring and relays hoping to find the root cause. I will say NONE of my future purchases will be Kabota!! I have a video of it, but it won’t let me post it here.

My simple solution would be to install a battery cutoff. They are just a few dollars and install on the negative terminal of the battery. Problem solved for less than $10.

thanks, thought about that, problem with that is it still does it sometimes when it’s running. Burnt up two starters already. I was able to trace it back to a bad $10 relay. Just need to get another starter and see it that fixed it. Might still do the battery cutoff though.
