The book says sae 80 for the transmission in a b6000 is that correct?don't I need to use udt which does hydraulics and transmission. I have a front end loader on the tractor and from what I can tell the hydraulic pump pulls from the transmission.

You have a few different options for the transmission and hydraulics. You can use the sae 80 like stated in the manual. 80w90, universal tractor hydraulic fluid, or kubota udt. Mystic makes an equivalent to the udt. As well as amsoi. Not sure what the amsoil and mystic brand name and numbers are for the equivalent. I'm sure someone else can chime in on those.

Udt, mystic, and amsoil would be your best options for winter and cold weather performance since they will flow easier.

Mystic JT-5 is the UDT equivalent, works very well too, it's what I use.

drained the transmission/hydraulic fluid last night and it is brown throughout, it didn't come out with water at the bottom and then oil. its been sitting for 3 days if it was water I expected that there would be some separation. is that the normal color of the fluid?

also had some little bubbles

Brown fluid doesn't seem right to me.

the brown is not good - not to be stupid, but a dark brown or like a glassy brown?..... unlike diesel engine oil, it get black quickly - the tranny and hydraulics should be somewhat clean.....until something gets in there and mucks up the fluid.

YOU might need to find some "cheap" oil and run it through the system to pick up the nasty stuff and then change out to the "better" stuff.

As per 85Hokie - "flush" it with something cheap. Clean and/or change the filters/screens as necessary.

Old hydraulic fluid will have a brown color, that's normal, new fluids will be more of a clear color.
And yes if it's sat for 3 days and it hasn't separated it's not going to.

Wolf - where does the brown come from? Should be nothing in there that could/would change it's color??? I would think it might not be reeeel clear but brown? Never really looked at old hydraulic fluid however!:)

Have you ever seen 80w90 gear oil?
It's more brown than clear and gets darker with age. ;)

Operating temperature and oil capacity have a big effect on when hydraulic oil starts to change color and requires changing. For example, one of my pieces of equipment has two cavities that take two quarts of oil, the third takes one quart of oil. Both the two quart cavities can go 1000 hrs before needing to be changed. But the one quart cavitie will almost be black if you let it go 500 hours. All three cavities take the same oil.

Things that could darken the fluid, could be heavy brake use, are dead heading the hyd system... (high temp's)

Get a socket that fits it and use a breaker bar and a cheater bar to help break loose.
Do not use any heat as there is O-rings that seal it and if they catch fire or burst and catch fire thing get really ugly real fast.
There is also no way to get heat to just the threads. ;)

Understood Wolfman. Will try the breaker bar but my next concern is rounding over the nut, it is feels soft maybe brass and was beat up a bit by previous owners
