Brought a used wood splitter home. Noticed when I got it back some hydraulic oil had leaked from the plug. It was a long and bouncy ride, and won’t be normal.

Should I be concerned about this? I thought this system should be pretty sealed for pressure?

I would have thought that a metal bolt would not be a good choice for a plug, but I notice this on other models.

I don’t have much experience with splitters.

That hole in the side is a breather for your hyd. tank. Just check you hyd fluid level when the machine is set up for use. Should be fine.

It can't be a sealed system, thermal expansion of the fluid while working would explode the tank! ;)
