What is this wire on starter for?

I recently replaced the starter motor on my B2630. Attached is a photo of the old one. There was a wire with a connector on the end attached to one of the terminals on the starter. I thought maybe the original owner had placed it there for something but the replacement motor had the same white wire/connector in the same place. Anyone know what it's for?

Maybe it's something to aid in jumpering the machine in the event the ignition switch goes south? Instead of the old screwdriver trick.

EDIT: disregard my above statement, that wouldn't work given the size of the jumper, it's too small of a wire gauge. Whatever it is, it can only supply 12V during the start process, which is interesting....

Used to power pull in circuit on fuel cutoff, probably for use when engine is installed in a different application then a tractor?

Are your safety switches disabled? Could it be for the 12V that comes through the switches to enable the starter solenoid on your model? Is there another 12V to enable the starter solenoid or is that running through a relay on your machine? On my B1700 I had issues with a voltage drop through the switches and I ended up installing a relay and triggered it off the safety switch circuit. Previous owner may have done something similar.

I just did an alternator upgrade on my 06 B3030, and I have that same white wire. It's not connected to anything, and was tie-wrapped from the factory.

White Wire on Starter.jpg

Looking at the WSM for my tractor, the white wire lead is called the "Stop Solenoid Lead".
The image below is from the WSM page 1-S38.

Still scratching my head about this wire. Only the one end was connected to the starter, the other end was just hanging in space and had enough grime on it that it didn't seem as if it had been connected to something else. Tractor has started fine for the entire time I've owned it with it dangling. I'm going to have to do some poking around. As others have suggested I'm beginning to wonder if it's a lead for an auxiliary starter relay.

Much to think about, thanks for posting. Still puzzled as to how there could be this wire just dangling on old starter and everything worked fine. However, going to remote location where tractor is tomorrow armed with my multimeter and see if I can track down where the engine stop solenoid is if it's functioning. Tractor starts fine with screwdriver though but that's a pain. Thanks again.

The solenoid looks like this...
It's from the video link of an "L" tractor. watch the video, he says you can remove it and start the tractor. Go to 2:45 in the video.

If it wasn't hooked up previously, I'm thinking you can remove it all together.

Does it shut off when you turn the key off? If so, I wouldn't be concerned with it. Be aware that Kubota has used several stop solenoid schemes over the years, so yours may not function like someone else's. You'll need the schematic for your specific model to trace it.

That wire is only used on the models with the 3-wire fuel shut-off solenoid. It supplies the power for the PULL circuit. Just tie it up out of the way.

That explains why mine is the way it is.

Zip tie the wire to the starter, out of the way, and move on.
You don't need it.
