Rented soil screener and started working on slash piles. Very efficient at separating slash but slow. 5 day rental will not be enough for all my piles. What a dusty mess. Tractor covered with red dust inside and out, No water on site so she needs to sit like that until the next rain, poor girl. I'm feeling guilty.

Looks like that should be some pretty good soil.

Hoping so G man. Will send off to coop extension service for analysis. In the meantime, gotta keep chugging along to get those pikes cleaned up.

Katy's nose started dripping Monday. I didn't feel like taking the cylinder off then, so I took it off yesterday and called the dealer. After they didn't have the kit in stock and didn't return my call twice, i wasn't eager to give them $70 + shipping to wait 2 more days. So this morning I hiked it to the shop 30 miles away. For $125 he fixed it while I waited and gave me the parts so I'll be ready when the other side goes out.

The owner used to sell auto parts and race short track. A fire 10 years ago destroyed his store and machine shop, so now he does cylinders and hoses and farm equipment repairs. He's just a little right of center, socially. :)

Just cruising up and down the rows keeping the grass at bay. Cub cadet style, trying to see just how much dirt I can possibly ingest. Boy I sure can't wait until my girl comes back!

have a link to the bracket?
As requested. Bracket is about 3/8" thick with a 1/8" lip on the bottom to support the ammo can. I like it a lot better than the one I have now.

Took a break from cutting and was walking around trying to dislodge half the field from within my nose. Started ponding a plan for getting driveway #2 underway.

If all goes well within the next several weeks, i'll be bringing home a '23 579 Pete with a 53' flatbed. Gotta make some room to avoid having to rent a place to keep her on the weekends. I without a doubt have the room, but my tree situation would have to be handled.

My entrance and gate will be the first thing to go. It's angled towards driveway #1 which will get erased once #2 is ready. Its tight enough getting my truck and 12ft trailer through let along a freakin semi.

20250903_111129.jpg

This is going to require pulling down the ENTIRE line of trees that run the first couple hundred yards of the new driveway.

This is well beyond my capabilities. I can drop several of them myself. But there are some impressively large Oaks followed by 6 MASSIVE dead pines.

I do have the option of pulling up our last row of berries. 64ish or so 8ft tall southern highbushes that do produce unfathomable amounts every year. Dont really want to do that, but its an option.

to the next batch of trees that would need to go.

And again, I could pull more bushes down here as well. I got 2 very thick massive rows, 36 bushes each row, that would open up a fair amount of space just in front of the above picture.

Another option, and has less trees to remove, is the somewhat open spot around the corner that leads to our pond.

20250903_111723.jpg

Before the so sudden departure from the shop last month, I was super close to ordering a grapple. I have an awesome tree guy that I will definitely have to get to drop all the large ones so this guy doesn't smash himself LOL.

But the amount of money it would take to let him not only drop, but section, and haul away would be completely unrealistic for us.

I would really only be able to pay him to drop them safely where they're at, then i could cut everything up and start hauling to our burn area.

A grapple is going to be a must have for this though!

That is, is I EVER see my tractor again LOL!!!

Went up and fetched the Post Hole Digger.

Used to have one, sold it when I got out of the sheep biz. PHD's are a pain in the derriere when stored with an eye towards having to remount it. When they're just flopped on the ground because the owner has never mounted one and hasn't a clue (came as part of the tractor package in an estate sale) it becomes a HUGE pain, especially when one worn out old fart is doing it alone.

However, this ain't my first rodeo and with blocking, using an 8 foot 2x4 for a lever and a little sketchy maneuvering, I managed it. Think I'll do the guy a favor and make a stand for it when I return it. He has other toys I borrow from time to time and I like to keep him happy...

Done, other than Baby Dottir painting the address on the box.

I went to all the effort of borrowing and hooking up that post hole digger figuring I'd run into the usual hell-hole of rocks, pin gravel and blue clay. Even brought my big pick bar up from the barn just knowing I'd be cussing it momentarily.

Got lined up, dropped the auger and hit the PTO and the effin' thing flat disappeared!

Nothing but red sand all the way down to the power head. Just hitting a little blue sand when I ran out of auger. Wound up dipping sand out of the bottom of the hole with a plastic tub.

When I was hauling equipment our dispatch was supposed to ask if there was room for a tractor and 48' trailer, customer always said, oh yea, plenty of room. I'd pull up and it would look just like your pictures. Some I would venture off into, others I'd take pictures and call dispatch for a rollback.
I learned real quick, if I pulled in somewhere, I better be able to back out!

I am slowly learning this.

I've been studying for a CDL now for a month. Feeling pretty good about it. Also found several good trucking channels with really good information on the "youtubes".

I'm not a big rig driver, but pulling a 30' toyhauler - RV, or my 26' flatbed... I can feel some of your pain.
Got into an unmarked cuddlesack one time with the RV. No way to turn around. I got an earfull from my wife when she had to watch for or block traffic as I backed out nearly 1/4 mile.

I can back a trailer pretty good. The hard part was having my wife complaining for weeks.

She would tell friends... "You know what my dumbass husband did! Yada yada... I was standing in the middle of the street with short shorts and a tank top stopping traffic"!

I asked her if she got any offers! That always made it worse.. She didn't.

That's a huge project to cut and clean up. Forks would be a help but a grapple would pay for itself on that job.

Yup, a vine got that right fender extension, so I will pick up a new one this morning.
Nope, I will not replace that plastic rear fender extension that has the taillight attached. It is over $200. Yikes !!! There will be some metal straps and rivets in my future.

This is true. I've seen many on here do a lot with just forks.

I was looking at a grapple from homestead a while back.

I feel like I could get the third function on myself....possibly! But if not, I got a really good tractor tech a few miles down the road that could.

He bought a 69 el camino last year and we immediately became elco buddies LOL.

What I did on my kubota 5 years ago:

Y'all ever had to do anything silly like this?

Just before we fully relocated out here, i'm running home real quick to get the garbage to the curb. Took my little yota, thought i could make it, immediately got her stuck at the bottom of the hill. She's lowered on toyo proxes....had to get creative LOL!

100ft extension cord wrapped around the box blade..... pulled her all the way back up to the road LOL!

There are 1,000 uses for extension cords, that's one I haven't seen before. A tow strap!

Glad nobody died! Lol
