Unknown part identification

Here is a picture of the positive wire from my battery. What is the box part on the wire. The parts description just says "box". What is the purpose of this box and can I do without it? My bolts are corroded and striped. I'm going to have to cut this box off to put a new battery terminal clamp on.

It's just a connection point, use a ring eye and it will do the same thing.

I would work on that connection point to the battery, mighty small ring that is somewhat strapped around that post. It is oxidized badly too!

Might want to consider a new terminal ring that will allow more contact with the post, and it will allow those other wires to hook up also with a new connection.

I like these marine style terminals as you can keep them clean and corrosion free.
