I have a 1998 M110 that has a problem with tran oil getting real hot to the point that I loose brakes. I changed oil and all filters It has great pressure and trans works as it should, I added an extra cooler but it didn't seem to help, any help would be appreciated

What task are you doing to make it get that hot?

What kind of fluid did you put back in when you changed it?

Doesn't seem to matter what I am doing mowing baling discing any more than 2 or 3 hours. The oil I put in is Kubota compatable hyd oil. It was doing this before changing it is why I changed it. I would think the pump was getting bad if it didn't have such good pressure. Thanks

Wild guess as that model is beyond my base, I would have the hydraulic pressure checked as a hanging pressure regulator can cause them to overheat the hydraulic fluid.

I agree with Wolfman, get it pressure tested.

Has it done this since it was new or did it just start over time?

Does any part of the hydraulic system not feel right? Steering, remotes, 3pt, do they feel normal and operate smoothly? Does anything seem to fast / slow or sluggish? Any noticeable difference it the way it sounds, whines, squeals, ect?

Shifts good lifts good and don't notice any hyd squeal . Tractor rolls freely. I got it used last year and thought it was heating when I took it to the field.I have arepair book but it doesn't mention anything about trans oil heating in the troubleshooting section. I also think it could be a stuck valve or something causing friction or resistance. Its isn't load sensing hyd system . There was no metal in the oil when I changed it or on the magnets. Although It does seem like it is a little short of power like something is holding it back like hyd lever pulled.. Ok I just now found in the book that the pressure relief valve for the steering can stick of malfunction and cause the oil to heat up rapidly. Think I will start there. Thanks guys for your help

Have you looked over all the hyd lines to make sure none of them are bent, kinked or squeezed together. I remember from way back when I was a kid I was bushhogging and hit a small concrete marker. It bent one of the steering line but everything still worked. It didn't take long before it caused problems though and had to be replaced.

Check your 3pt top limit. If it's set too high, the pump will stay on pressure and the relief valve will stay open, causing the oil to heat up faster. Best way to test it is to lower the 3pt just a bit and see if you notice a change in the way it sounds.

I have the arms down mostlywhen mowing and baleing doesn't make any difference. Checked steering relief valve not stuck or scored. Lines look good. I know it has to be simple just cant put my finger on it

It seems like most of the bases have been covered. Have you even used a heat gun and actually checked the temp?

It makes me question the oil the former owner was using. Wonder if they used something that wasn't compatible with wet brakes? We ran into this at the quarry on some of our haul trucks. The hyd oil was suppose to work but the brakes would fail after they were up to operating temp. It took several changes to get that oil flushed out and get everything working as it should.

I know you said you used Kubota compatible oil but most likely it came with SUDT from the factory. If you used something like they sell at TSC it's not going to perform the same as the real Kubota fluid. Just a thought.
