Trailering my L3560 LE 800 miles…my set up. ** New photos**

The photos below show my set up. Each set of straps has a 3,000 pound working load limit with a 9,000 safety limit. The trailer has a total load limit of 6,000 pounds. The trailer itself weighs 1,000 pounds leaving a load limit on top of the trailer of 5,000 pounds. The tractor and loader weigh about 4,500 pounds leaving a gap of 500 pounds. Took it out for a trial run and to get the straps to settle in and tighten additionally where necessary. Comments?

I use wheel nets all the time for my Polaris SXS 4 seater and my cars (Corvettes). The wheel nets are made by Macs Custom Straps. The trial run I could feel the tractor behind me…we are going to take it easy and run between 55-60 mph.

Im no trailering expert so the only comment I'll make is possibly a little light on the tongue weight. If the tail wags the dog it is never good. Ths can happen when you take too much weight off the rear wheels.or don't put enough on them. 55-60 gets old quick when you gotta do 800 miles

I would put the draw bar as far into the tractor as it will go and then attach to it. You have a huge moment arm that is twisting around the bolts and putting load on the tractor that is not needed.

Some states may require chains so you may want to verify that before you leave on the trip.

You might want to tie down the loader just in case they think it is an implement that “must“ be independently tied down

You are right about it getting old. Fortunately we break it down to 400 miles and spend the night. Good news is I have a 2500 with diesel and Allison transmission and that makes pulling a trailer a bit better…just a bit!

I've seen guys tape 2-3 layers of corrugated onto the front facing windows to protect in case a stone 'magically' visits. Also lock the doors,just to be sure they can't 'mysteriously' open all by themselves....

Looks good too me. You have enough truck. If I saw you going down the road my first thought would be: "Not enough trailer". But you read the specs and did the math, so I guess that your good. But you're at max.

As trial and error said keep some decent tongue weight. If you see or feel any trailer sway, address that quick.

I prefer chains and binders, but good straps work.

I've never put cardboard on the front facing windows, but that seems very wise.

I took it for a test drive and ran 55-60. No problems other than I could tell I was hauling a heavy load, heavier than I had on the trailer before.

My only comment is that I am surprised tractor and loader weigh about 4500 pounds. From looking up the listed Specs , loader and tractor come in at over 5000 pounds. Are your tires filled?

Think about the doors facing backwards. Is there any way to prevent them from getting too much air forced on them that could pop the door open? Maybe use some cardboard to cushion the windows and then wrap the cab in the shipping wrap that is used on pallets to keep the load from falling apart.

Here is what I get….tractor w/4wd and HST = 3,880 pounds, 805 loader = 1279 pounds
total = 5,159 pounds…yup….might have to rethink this. I have a friend that has a dump trailer with 10,000 pound capacity….

What you’ve got should work fine, like @The Evil Twin says, you’ve got twice the number of tie downs I have. Although I do prefer chains myself.

My gut feel suggests the cab tractor and FEL are over 5k. If you have loaded tires, add another 800 lbs or so. I’ll second pushing the draw bar in, no need for it to be loading in bending to that extent and duration.

I’m surprised the trailer is only half the weight of my steel 16’ dual axle 7k GVWR trailer mine weighs 2k). Looks like you could use some stake pockets on the edges for tie down points for more favorable angles.

You can subtract the tongue weight from the weight of the trailer and tractor. Not sure if you did that.

I have quite a few trailers, and the tandem axle models all have two 7k axles, but the trailers are rated at 15k since the manufacturer assumes around 1k of the load will be transferred via tongue weight to the tow vehicle.

Nice set up and tractor, but the wheel nets seem redundant to me.

I was towing this beast last weekend, only 40 miles round trip, but I did tow the M6060 back from Sheridan, WY which was 600 miles. I wish I had more truck to be honest!

FWIW.....consider taping your doors shut, folding in your mirrors, taping / strapping moving blanket to rear window, tape the qc dust covers down, and removing the smv sign.

In most locations, DOT laws say you must have a strap on the loader and a strap on the implement on the three point to be legal.
