Redding, California is another hot one. We were there in August of '76. It was 121 degrees. I think it's about 12 feet from the sun.

Hope everyone stays safe in that heat. The hottest I ever saw was at FT Hood Texas. It was around 110 and as you know military trucks do not have AC. We were hauling JP 4 from the gulf to Ft Hood and we went out the gate that morning it was 90 at 7:00 am.But the best was to come. Closer to the gulf we got the humidty went up. I thought I was going to die

I'm not sure if the humidity ever gets that low unless it is 30 below zero. It definitely doesn't get that hot.

I feel your pain. We get temps like that in July and August. After being in that, you have a pretty good understanding of what shrimp and lobster feel like just before being served :rolleyes::p

You guys down there would laugh at what I call hot. I would probably go into shock stepping off a plane and feeling the first blast of that air.

Hated the cold when I was younger, but now it's just the opposite. Funny how that works.
I've already had enough of this summer heat. We're headed for the Keweenaw for vacation next month.

I read somewhere yesterday that an airline had to cancel flights to AZ because of 120 deg temps. It said the Bombardier jets are only good to 118, something to do with hotter air makes it harder to get off the ground when taking off. 120 is hot, damm 120 deg water will burn your skin.

Just grabbed some readings (in direct sun) with my infrared thermometer:
white aluminum siding on 5th wheel, 147F
concrete sidewalk, 129F
rusty/black portable fire pit, 154F
white frame of 10'x6' utility trailer, 134F
black plastic pallet, 157F
gray slump block wall, 131F
Which highlights my biggest problem when it gets this hot- everything is to hot to touch without gloves.

6pm news just said American Airlines canceled 43 flights today.

I'd need more than gloves. Like an air conditioned fire suit! Do take care, Foot!

you turn them on and the blade would be 6 feet long before they cooled :D

Its off the 'Net. Reportedly in a non-insulated tin shed somewhere out here in Fo-Necia. If you turn them on, you can't turn them off til October when it cools off again so the blades can harden in a semi-flat position. :)

I'm assuming your outdoor fans need to be converted to either wooden or metal blades :eek::eek:
Solid wood might work but the standard fiberboard blades absorb moisture out of the air and will look the same after a few years. I've seen that a lot, especially in restaurants with patio seating. Might not be a problem in arizona though. I'd probably make new blades from sheet aluminum.

For the record, my plastic fan blades on the patio are still in perfect shape. This was shot today after the 118 days. Its a cool 103 on the thermo at 1 PM.

Those melted blades must have been super cheapo...

Send some of that heat up this way. Highs today is in the 50's and more rain. Middle of the state is under water
